*HIGH PRESSURE STEAM SYSTEMS
Duties involve the operation, installation, fabrication, selection, adjustment, maintenance, modification and repair of piping and technical equipment such as pumps, converters, flash tanks, traps, pneumatic valves, coils, tube bundles, safety valves, flow meters, radiator, supply, and disposal systems, etc., for steam system that will handle steam pressures up to and including 165 psi and in the connection of lines to air conditioning, cooking, and heating equipment.
*LOW PRESSURE STEAM SYSTEMS
Duties involve the operation, installation, fabrication, selection, adjustment, maintenance, modification and repair of piping and technical equipment such as pumps, traps, pneumatic valves, coils, tube bundles, safety valves, flow meters, radiator, supply, and disposal systems, etc., for steam system that will handle steam pressures up to and including 15 psi and in the connection of lines to air conditioning and heating equipment.
*WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMS
Duties involve the operation, installation, fabrication, selection, adjustment, maintenance, and repair of piping and technical equipment such as pumps, valves, tube bundles, backflow preventers, safety valves, flow meters, etc., for water systems. Cover sections of piping fittings with insulation material using magnesium covering involving wiring or metal taping sheets, and insulation (fiberglass, calcium silicate, flexible foam rubber, PVC) to pipes. Insulate pipe and fittings with powdered insulation cement that is mixed and plastered on using a trowel. Modify and alter plumbing systems as part of modifications and improvements accomplished by station personnel. Repair of pipe insulation that contains asbestos.
*OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
Able to plan and lay work from blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions in an orderly and efficient manner, and to use shop related mathematics to lay out angles, arcs, and circles. Knowledge of high pressure piping systems and equipment to install and operate them. Knowledge of how relief valves, check valves, pressure regulators, expansion joints and other pressure supporting and controlling devices are installed. Plan and lay out the routing, placement, pitch, elevation, pressure reduction, expansion, slant, slope and fail for proper operation of systems and equipment. Determine and place the equipment at the proper levels and points in the systems; joining, sealing, seating, testing for leaks, and making final connections to the equipment. Operate sliding squares, measuring tapes, dividers, chalk lines, plumb bob, templates, star drill grinders, hand and pipe threaders, cutters and pipe wrenches. Operate a motor vehicle up to 1 l/2 tons to transport self, coworkers and supplies.
*Knowledge of winterization of all sprinkler systems at West Point, NY. This includes all athletic fields, public bathrooms and water fountains.
