Career Goal:
To use my gifts as an Advanced Practice Diabetes Educator and Diabetes Program Manager to help people physically and emotionally deal with their chronic disease. I desire additional opportunities to help educate physicians and other health care professionals about various pharmaceutical products and how they can help manage diabetes, heart disease, obesity and various other chronic diseases. Clinical Trials, and those involving Diabetes Intervention are my forte, and I am skilled at pumps and CGMS per my credentialing as a CDTC (Certified Diabetes Technology Clinician). Education:
1. BS in General Dietetics, May 1983 from Winthrop University, SC.
Earned a grade point ratio of 3.9 during the 5 year program with a built in clinical rotation through Charlotte Memorial Hospital and the Greenville Hospital System.
Paid portion of college tuition via campus jobs and academic scholarships. 2. MS in Nutrition, May 1986 from Winthrop University, SC.
Earned a grade point ratio of 3.88 with a thesis, which was done on teaching techniques utilized in diabetes education.

Published the results from the thesis in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association in March, 1989.
Credentials and Awards:
1. AADE Leadership: Past President of the Charlotte, NC AADE Chapter (MADE) and Greenville, SC UPADE. President-Elect of the AADE Chapter President Council for AADE in 2006 and served on Committee for AADE Chapter Support and Nominations Committee for AADE Chapter Presidents Council 2007. 2. Certified Diabetes Educator with 35+ years of Diabetes Education and Program Management experience. Received CDE credentials in 1996. Received BC-ADM credential in 2004. Earned pump trainer status with Medtronic, and Animas. 3. Medicare Provider for MNT and able to bill Medicare for reimbursement on Medical Nutrition Therapy consultations for diabetes and pre-renal patients. 4. President of UPADE (Upper Piedmont Association of Diabetes Educators) for 2003 through 2005 and Past President in 2006- 2007. Have led this professional group of Diabetes Educators from a membership of 3 to 25 active CDE’s in the Upstate. Responsible for organizing and planning the Fall Diabetes Conference which attracts over 180 CDE’s from the tri-state area.
5. Member of National Peer Review Committee for the American Association of Diabetes Educators. Chosen to critique diabetes teaching materials prior their endorsement and publication by the national organization of diabetes educators. Currently working on the Milner Fenwick new MNT Slide Program. Professional Experience:
1. Medical Scientific Liaison – Novo Nordisk, Inc. Employed as of August 2006 to be the MSL for the South Atlantic Territory including the states of Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and parts of Georgia. Re-aligned most recently to the South Atlantic Region coveringt all of SC as the Executive MSL. Accustomed to extensive traveling and extremely self directed and project driven. Excellent computer and communication skills and knowledgeable of clinical research process and current clinical data regarding diabetes and other chronic disease states. 2. Carolina’s Center for Diabetes and Endocrinology - Diabetes Education Program Manager as of November 2005. Hired by the Medical Director, Dr. Ronald Mayfield, to manage all aspects of the Diabetes Education area of the Endocrinology Office for Spartanburg Regional Hospital System. Direct report includes 4 staff CDEs and Bethea 3
responsible for the Comprehensive Diabetes Education Classes, Insulin Pump Classes, Gestational Diabetes Classes, billing and coding updates, ADA accreditation, maintenance of CEUs by staff members, educational resources, and overall Program Management of the ADA recognized program. Also, act as a resource to the inpatient hospital population and hospital employees. Responsible for financial accountability of program, marketing presentations for increasing referral base and growing the practice by 50% in the next fiscal year. Resigned in August 2006.
3. Palmetto Health Baptist Easley, Easley, SC – Diabetes Program Manager from May 2001 until November 2005. Responsible for growing the Diabetes Program entitled LIFESKILLS from infancy to its current position as a new revenue generating department. This extensive process of program development included such tasks as:
Researching curriculum and developing patient education resources.
Entering newly created Sim/Fims for billing and coding into the IT system.
Investigating current legal issues in the Medicare, Medicaid, and other third party reimbursement arenas. Contracting our our services with individual payors such as Companion.
Tracking data on diabetes software and reporting outcomes to hospital administrators, physicians, and the American Diabetes Association.
Writing grants for more than $75,000 to expand our DSME program and provide outreach resources for people with Diabetes.
Creating new patient resources such as the newly formed Pickens County Diabetes Coalition, and received an annual $3,000 DHEC grant to improve the awareness and treatment of Diabetes in our community. Function as the chairman and coordinator of this Coalition and DHEC.
Leading the Diabetes Focus Team Committee of 14 interdisciplinary professionals such as physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and dietitians.
Managing our DSME Dept of 2 CDE’s, and 2 Administrative Assistants.
Providing ongoing community education through the monthly Diabetes Support Group Meetings. Our community averages 70 participants at each free monthly meeting, which is advertised on local radio and TV stations. 4. Bon Secours/St. Francis Health Systems, Greenville, SC – from January 2001 until May 2001. Employed at the Downtown Hospital as the Dietitian CDE for the Diabetes Center. Worked 20 hours per week to perform individual DSME consultations both in-house and on an outpatient basis. Provided not only MNT consults, but also taught insulin administration, glucometer instructions, and performed case management in-house.
5. St. Francis Women’s and Family Hospital, Greenville, SC – from March 1995 until October 1999. Clinical and Outpatient Dietitian averaging 20 to 32 hours per week. Responsible for the inpatient nutritional assessments and medial nutrition therapy.
