PRINCIPAL, MILLER ADVANCEMENT 2023 - Present

Provide consultation and interim executive leadership to advance the work of non-profit organizations, with a special focus on higher education, health care, and faith-based institutions. Recent clients include the Bryant Group, California State University, Dominguez Hills, Maranatha High School in Pasadena, California, and pro bono consultation to two local churches regarding their capital campaign planning. President & Chief Philanthropy Officer, Providence Mission Hospital Foundation (2018-2022) Responsible for raising, managing and distributing Foundation funds in support of Providence Mission Hospital’s two campuses in Mission Viejo and Laguna Beach as well as their programs. Member of hospital executive management team. Staffed the chief executive of the hospital and integrated delivery network. Recruited and managed a 40-member Foundation Board of Directors. Oversaw multiple auxiliaries and support groups. Managed a $4 million operating budget. Represented hospital in the community. Average fund-raising revenues increased by 50% during tenure while managing an organizational transition to a “shared services” model within Providence’s South Division. While preparing for a future $250 million comprehensive campaign, completed three capital-specific campaigns to expand the hospital’s emergency departments in Laguna Beach and Mission Viejo each by 30% and to successfully launch the Leonard Cancer Institute. Staff engagement scores rose dramatically during tenure, with the highest “leader responsiveness” scores among all hospital departments and among all of Providence’s Southern California foundations.

Vice President, Development, Saint John’s Health Center Foundation (2015-2018) Responsible for 24-member team supporting Providence Saint John’s Health Center and its Child and Family Development Center. Oversight included major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, foundation relations, special events, prospect research, patient relations, and development communications. Represented Saint John’s in the community. Foundation gift revenues grew from $15,210,143 in 2014 to $25,724,831 in 2015 and $30,300,418 in 2016, with approximately 80% of gift revenues supporting the hospital. Foundation support groups included a 100- member Board of Trustees, a 125-member Irene Dunne Guild, approximately 200 Friends of the Future, and a dues-paying 80-member Physician Alumni Association. PEPPERDINE UNIVERSITY, Malibu, CA 2007 – 2015

Vice Chancellor (2010 – 2015)

Associate Vice President, Development and Alumni Affairs (2007-2010) Led a team of 50 professional and administrative staff. Responsible for alumni affairs, major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, corporate and foundation relations, and publicly-sponsored programs during the planning and execution of a successful Campaign for Pepperdine, which raised $470 million against a $450 million goal. Implemented reorganization of fund-raising and alumni affairs. Served as a university ambassador and “friend maker” in key communities. Private support increased from a pre-campaign average of $20 million to a campaign average of

UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, LOS ANGELES (UCLA) 1995 – 2007 Chief Development Officer, Venice Family Clinic (UCLA affiliated organization) (2003 – 2007) Responsible for fundraising from both private and public sources, program development and evaluation, and communications/media relations. Cash and in-kind gifts totaled $10-15 million per year, supporting programs and expansion to new locations. Closed multiple seven-figure gifts, including a multi-million dollar gift believed to be largest ever to a free clinic at the time. Gala reached or exceeded $1 million each year. Oversaw recruitment, training, and mobilization of over 1,000 fund-raising volunteers. Enhanced both print and web-based communications, with publications receiving national awards.

Instructor, UCLA Extension (2003 – 2007)

Taught major gift fund raising, both on campus and online, with outstanding evaluations. Associate Director, University Development and Director of Major Gifts (1999 – 2003) Member of UCLA Development’s senior management team during $1.8 billion Campaign UCLA, the largest fund-raising campaign in the history of public higher education at the time. Participated in the successful cultivation and solicitation of donors who ultimately made eight- figure gifts. Managed a team of major gift officers responsible for identification and solicitation of prospects university-wide. Oversaw regional and international fund raising as well. Assistant Dean for External Affairs, School of Public Health (1998 – 1999) Director of Development & Alumni Relations, School of Public Health (1995 – 1997) Responsible for all aspects of external affairs including fundraising, communications, alumni relations, and government relations. Planned and implemented capital campaign, achieving record fund-raising results, tripling number of donors and quadrupling dollar value of gifts. Secured multiple seven-figure gifts. Successfully rebuilt both the School’s Dean’s Advisory Board and the Alumni Board. Produced alumni events which achieved record attendance. Led 500-member congregation. Successfully raised funds for church budget, land acquisition and property renovation, including a multi-million dollar donation of real estate. Opened a church- owned transitional home for pregnant women in crisis, a pre-school and children’s center, and launched a ministry to homeless individuals.

Associate Pastor for Youth, Young Adult, and Mission Ministries (1980 – 1985) Minister to College and Young Adults (1978 – 1980) During tenure, church raised most mission dollars of any American Baptist congregation in country. Led medical and other mission teams at home and abroad. EDUCATION
