SUMMARY OF RELEVANT QUALIFICATIONS
Tutor for elementary, intermediate and advanced ESL students. Teach Spanish and to elementary, and adult students and Reading to elementary school students in the public and charter school systems.
Substitute teacher for several charter schools in the greater Houston area. Teach core and specialized subjects including reading, math, English and Spanish to students in grades one through 12. Follow regular teacher’s lesson plans in a way that ensures consistency and optimal learning and that encourages students to participate. Assign classwork according to lesson plans. Mentor at-risk youth in a maximum watch oversight program for children in the custody of juvenile prison systems, State custody or private institutions. Intervene in conflicts among the youth, employing anger management techniques to diffuse tensions and to redirect aggressive behavior. Taught English as a Second Language to non-native, adult speakers from various countries. Taught in a multicultural learning environment that emphasized respect for diversity, and enabled international students to learn about their fellow students’ cultures. Developed weekly lesson plans for adult students of various ages and intellectual capabilities. Fostered a culture of teamwork to assist students who needed extra help in comprehending English grammar. Monitored students’ progress and conferred with other teachers to improve the continuity and pertinence of the lessons and learning objectives. Because many students were seeking to become US citizens, I structured lessons around matters of practical living. As a student teacher, I taught ESL classes to Spanish students from the University of Sevilla in Seville, Spain.
