EXPERIENCE

New York City Department of Education 1997-2023

DIRECTOR STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES MS8 Q

September 2017- February 2023

Maintained the structure, culture and continuity of grades 6-8 using the City-Wide Discipline code and the school’s vision for success as a roadmap. This position as Dean, ushered me into a two-year, 2021-2023, role as Emergency Building Response Team Leader for a campus of 4 independent schools. This building level responsibility represents the unique measure of respect and trust held for me throughout my tenure at the school. Helping to write and design MS8’s Broadway Junior Musical Theater program, serving as Director/Coordinator was indeed a career highlight.

LEAD TEACHER

September 2013-2017

Donned many hats in this position while coaching my colleagues. These positions included testing coordinator, SLT chair, Data Inquiry Specialist, Quality Review liaison, National Honor Society lead, ppt, instructional team, Practice Makes Perfect inaugural summer program Building Supervisor, Saturday Academy lead, grant writer, coverage schedular, Special Education Department liaison, Trip Coordinator, Technology Specialist, and 8th grade science lead. My classes were able to show exemplary success in scores using the Word Generation ELA program. DEPUTY DIRECTOR SQPA BEACON

February 2020 – February 2023

Responsible for continuing the legacy of one of the first 7 day per week Beacon Community Center programs implemented in NYC by Mayor Dinkins. Having written the current grant proposal, I was intimately familiar with the vision and mission set forth by the SQPA parent organization. I was charged with implementation and management of the daily personnel, curricula and programmatic concerns. Professional development and team building took center stage at each staff meeting. The established Beacon Summer program became an integral collaborative force in the post- COVID summer initiatives for the NYC Department of Education.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL CANARSIE HIGH

September 2005- June 2008

Represented the Principal in most district and community meetings and events. Served as a 4-department chair for Health, Physical Education, Sports, Music, Art and Technology. Initiated innovation in departmental curricula, teaching and learning which ensured inter-disciplinary strategies and instructional rigor aligned with differentiated assessment goals. Wrote and implemented a Professional Leaning Community Grant for Technology. Initiated the introduction and implementation of the Promethean ActivBoards in NYC schools. Was privileged to be at the forefront of introducing the innovative computer program, Second Life, to NYC students. Improved physical plant safety by working with NYCDOE Department of School Construction to design a safe non-public egress for the Athletic Field to the building and the gym. Canarsie was known to have more gymnasium access points than any other school in the city.
