Area Representative for ASSE 2015-2016

Reports to the Area Coordinator

As Area Representative I do the following.

Attend annual full day ASSE Area Representative training orientation meeting and I successfully complete the U.S. Department of State’s online training module each year.

Utilize local community contacts to recruit at least two potential ASSE host families for students coming to the area.

Maintain open line of communication with school throughout the year.

Collect and submit student report cards throughout the year to Local Coordinator.

Interviews and screens prospective host family, visits the home, inspects the student’s bedroom, takes five (5) photographs of the host family home, and assists in completing host family application process. Places student with qualified host families and advises Area Coordinator promptly of placements made.

Conduct ASSE host family orientation meeting prior to student arrival and after the host family has been fully vetted. Makes personal/ phone contact within one week of arrival.

Conduct student orientation meeting within 2 weeks of arrival.

In addition to the post-arrival student orientation, plans, organizes, attends and documents at least 3 ASSE social or recreational activities/events during the program year setting aside one-on-one personal time with each ASSE student during such activities.

Telephones the ASSE student and the host family each month when personal contact is not made (alternating host parents, where applicable) to monitor their adjustment and keep a log of all such contacts. The first monthly contact I made with the student was in person properly documented information in the ASSE’s online database. Other contacts took place in person or on the phone and properly documented each contact.

Contact the host family, in person at least once during the fall semester and at least once during the spring semester (e.g. twice during the academic year) and properly document information in ASSE’s online database.

I am available to ASSE students and host families to assist and act as mediator with any problems or questions which may occur.

Report all significant problems and any changes in student placements to the Area Coordinator.

Complete an “Exit Orientation” before student departure.

Complete the Area Representative evaluation questionnaire at program’s conclusion.
