● For my three seasons at Oregon Caves my job was to organize and interpret scientific data to the public for interpretive purposes. This includes leading and presenting guided cave tours at a minimum of three times per day, each one being 90 minutes each with upwards of 25 people, as well as leading tours throughout our historic district within our park and developing a haunted Halloween cave tour for staff to run. In doing so, I would greet visitors and inform them of the importance of safety as we would begin our journey through the cave. Helping visitors plan their visits, directing them to brochures and responding to unique and at times repetitive questions were all part of my duties as well. Group sizes would reach upwards of twenty visitors at a time. After greeting visitors, I would inform them of importance of preservation and threat of white nose syndrome. With safety always in mind, I was given the opportunity to hold meetings with all other tour guides regarding safety standards and expectations. Delegating tour schedules was also a duty of mine, as well as being able to relate to the general public as I roved through the Visitor Center making them feel comfortable while waiting to go through our cave system. Explaining the importance of hiking our trails was a main priority for this position, as well as the importance of preservation when it comes to leaving no trace and minimal impact camping.

With ArcGIS in my background I was able to begin to develop a mapping activity of the park for visitors to enjoy. It was able to encourage exploration of our trails and also educate them on the importance of mapping

Canyonlands National Park

GS-05 Park Ranger (40 hours /week)

● As a park ranger at Canyonlands National Park my duties included running and developing interpretive material

to present to a diverse audience of visitors. Assisting education with junior ranger programs, and assisting junior ranger with their activities was a fun and rewarding aspect of the job as well. I was also responsible for running fee stations and selling passes, while at the same time running a register at the gift shop and visitor center, and providing assistance to visitors to plan their trip. Roving hiking trails was a common practice to develop a better understanding of the geography and geology of the park, as well as roving campgrounds and presenting campfire programs.

Acadia National Park

● As a park guide at Acadia National Park, my duties include developing and presenting interpretive ACE popup programs along with presenting formal interpretive drop in programs. Roving, including on the hiking trails and through bike roves, is a major responsibility in order to connect with visitors and help them in tough situation which may require use of a first aid kit or a bike repair kit. Meeting with visitors, and explaining closures on hiking trails and the safety and importance of respecting said closures is also a crucial part of work done here. Working a desk, stocking desk with interpretive materials and brochures, and planning visitors trips and answering all of their questions and responding to their comments is an important and daily responsibility. Assisting junior rangers with their books and swearing them in is a rewarding and important duty as a park guide at Acadia. Running a point of contact station at a park museum and learning phones and responding to visitors questions via information line are two other job functions at Acadia. Collaborating with workers and helping them develop their own programs are two other activities performed.

Fort Vancouver NHS

GS-04 Visitor Use Assistant (40 hrs/week)

November 21, 2021 to April 23, 2022

● As a Visitor Use Assistant at Fort Vancouver NHS my main duties were to present informal and formal historic programs to visitors on a continuous loop for upwards of three hours to groups of up to 40 people,being responsible for opening and closing point of contact stations, selling passes to visitors, promoting safety in the park and orientating visitors to the geography of the Washington area. Responding to visitor mail and working with other co-workers to deliver a joint program were roles that also accompanied my main duties. I was given the opportunity to interpret indigenous culture as well as natural history which provide a wide spectrum of opportunities to build upon my career in interpretation. Working a desk, stocking desk with interpretive materials and brochures, and planning visitors trips and answering all of their questions and responding to their comments is an important and daily responsibility. GS-05 Park Ranger (40hrs/week)

● Park Ranger Duties include developing and presenting a minimum of three programs throughout the seasons. These programs include evening or campfire programs with powerpoint presentation included, and attendance as high as 120 people, a pop up program, and a 1 hr patio talk with visitation as high as 50 people. General ranger duties include open, closing and staffing a desk at a visitor center with upwards of 300 people daily, stocking and preparing park materials and brochures, responding to visitor mail requests, recording daily visitation and weather statistics, and maintaining park facilities and equipment. Programs deal with natural and cultural history and all are given to diverse audiences and backgrounds to enhance visitor experience. Other duties include preparing social media posts, gathering road statistics and running sales for the park gift store and IA passes through RBMS.

Programs included weekly boat cruise tours to groups of 55+ visitors and manned drop in programs with visitation has high as 120 visitors. Roving, including on the hiking trails and through bike roves, was a major responsibility in order to connect with visitors and brief them on park safety and leave no safe principles, while being prepared to assist in situations which may require use of a first aid kit or a bike repair kit. Meeting with visitors, and explaining closures on hiking trails and the safety and importance of respecting said closures was also a crucial part of work done here. Working a desk, stocking desk with interpretive materials and brochures, and planning visitors trips and answering all of their questions and responding to their comments was an important and daily responsibility. I was able to act as lead for a point of contact station at a park museum, where I worked collaboratively with other departments within the park to ensure safety and visitor satisfaction. Assisting with phone calls, recording park stats and responding to visitors questions via information line were daily duties and tasks performed as well.
