PERSONAL ESSAY
A time when I persevered, worked everything to completion and came out
the other side was during my time at this school. During my freshman year, I took AP HUG, a class that, when I look back, was not as difficult as I had believed. Still, at the time it was the most writing-intensive and exhausting class I had taken. There were multiple instances where I was behind on Homework until, near the end of the semester I had one night to either sleep and let my future self face the consequences or do all I could to make the present as stress-free as possible. That night I worked from 11 pm to 7 am writing on paper nearly 10 pages worth of geographical information and English assignments. Similar instances like this have happened before, and I’m thankful I didn’t waver when I did to resolve things when they should have been.
A moment when I serviced a community was during Juneteenth. A local library was organizing a small fare with musicians, games, and volunteer opportunities. I navigated and spoke to the community there myself and I was grateful for coming and they felt the same way. I helped fundraise for the library, the city of Norfolk, and a group of retired veterans.
