Referral Transcriptionist
Texas Children’s Health Plan
October 2017- July 2024
6330 West Loop S. 12th Bellaire, TX 77401
As a home-based Referral Transcriptionist, I would transcribe incoming referrals from external providers. I would receive STAT orders as well as non-urgent orders that would all be processed through different software queues such as Epic, Redcap, and RightFax. When creating a referral order for a patient I would first check for an existing medical record using an approved patient look-up method through Epic tabs such as Media Manager and Registration. If no medical record exists, I will then register the patient and create a new medical record to be able to create and transcribe the referral sent from the external. provider. Most of the time there are always notes, labs, clinicals, and charts that would need to be downloaded, labeled, and attached to referral order. I will attach these necessary forms through Epic Media Manager when creating the referral. If attaching forms after referral was already processed I would simply look-up patient through Epic and view their chart to find existing pending referral. When transcribing an order, it was my duty to thoroughly make sure that all demographic information (Physician, patient name/alias, payer information, and diagnosis codes) were complete and accurate. Aside from transcribing referrals I would verify documents each day, create SER’s for external referring providers, needing signing privileges in order to process the referral, and correct error codes through Epic, Interface in Med 1, Med 2, Surg 1, Surg 2. I Demonstrated excellent phone skills and communication skills with internal and external physicians, and nurses as well as with management, and my team. I participated in daily and weekly unit meetings through Teams Microsoft.
