Barry Dunham
Working as a teacher and coach for the last ten years has motivated me to be the type of person who strive to make a difference in the lives of students. For example, my former athletes and their parents have told me that I am a great coach. Also, both my math inclusion classrooms last year exceeded their goal of 90% passing on the end of grade assessment. If I had this type of impact on students and parents as a teacher and coach. I can imagine the impact that I can have as a leader in education. Having great mentors, educating myself, and great teaching experiences has made me a better person. Please allow me to use these great experiences to inspire students to do their best as well.
My philosophy
Transformational leaders have to be able to inspire people to become committed followers. To do this a leader must understand the importance of integrity and that people are only inspired to l
do great things by people they trust. I’ve learned this in my coaching positions working with students, parents, and teachers. It’s important that you earn their trust through a strong moral character, fidelity and hard work. People have to see these values in you before they buy in and accept your vision. To obtain high level of achievement people have to be willing to go over and beyond the call of duty and people only do this at high levels for people they trust.
What type of leader am I?
As a leader, I possess a high level of moral stewardship to carry out the mission of an organization. I’ve been given opportunities to teach health and physical education and special education when I had very little to no experience and I achieved both because I understood stewardship. Whereas, I see education as a moral obligation and an opportunity to serve and help improve people lives.
