Serve as a Drug Abuse Treatment Specialist (DATS) within a Bureau of Prisons (BOP) federal correctional facility.

Provide direct services, individual therapy and/or group counseling, drug education, residential and/or non-residential treatment services which focuses on the rational behavioral therapy model of drug abuse treatment and criminality.

Responsible for the education of prison staff focusing on drug abuse, drug abuse treatment and the local prison program.

Administer eligibility and psycho-social assessments as the basis for individual treatment planning.

Attend meetings with supervisors, other drug treatment DATSs, the unit team, etc., to share information, knowledge, ideas, and recommendations for the drug abuse treatment participants.

Served as a member of the unit team which provided recommendations for the institution.

Gathered data and prepared required reports as directed by the unit team to report on inmate’s progress during regularly scheduled progress reviews.

Maintained appropriate documentation of inmate’s daily contacts as well as group and counseling activities.

Served as a unit expert and coordinator on matters pertaining to: (a) inmate personal property, including incoming and outgoing package approvals; and (b) trust fund activities, including inmate withdrawals and special purchase orders.

Coordinated approvals/disapprovals to the inmates’ visiting lists, as well as, conducted the National Crime Investigation Center (NCIC) checks for those requesting placement on the lists.

Provided supervision, care and correctional treatment of inmates.

Oversaw some of the enforcement of rules and regulations governing facility security, inmate accountability and inmate conduct which ensured judicial sanctions were carried out and inmates remained in custody.
