Africa Strategy Group: Managing Partner, (May 2020 To Date).

• Grants and business development: I have helped civil society organizations design and develop appropriate projects and secure funds for their interventions. For example, I have supported Scion-Trust in Kenya to secure grants for a project to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 on farmer associations in the Embu and Tharaka districts.

• Research and intelligence gathering: I have ensured sound decision-making by providing intelligence and analytics on business forecasts, income generation, and growth opportunities. For example, I researched and structured The Change Academy’s training offers and fee structure.

• Strategic partnerships: I strengthened Scion-Trust’s competitive advantage and unique selling proposition by establishing partnerships for funding with global-level partners including the David and Lucile Foundation, Coca-Cola, and the International Foundation.

• Innovative leadership: I conceptualized and nurtured The Change Academy into an independent entity dedicated to providing training, tools, and mentorship programs on communications, advocacy, and political campaigns. Before that, I led the creation of the communication department which grew to 4 staff by the time I was redeployed to another department.

• Capacity building: I organized advocacy training and a 6-month mentorship program to reinforce the advocacy capacities of fellows in the Aspen Institute’s New Voices Fellowship Program. I also developed user-guided advocacy tools for organizations in 6 West African countries and trained their focal staff who participated in the regional advocacy campaign to end trafficking in persons for forced labor abroad and within the region, courtesy of the International Center for Migration Policy Development

(ICMPD).

• Stakeholder engagement: I facilitated high-level consultations in South Sudan and Rwanda for sanitation stakeholders to establish political goodwill and partnership for the African Sanitation Policy Guideline by the African Ministers’ Council On Water. I also organized a forum for IDRC to engage high-level decision-makers, NGO representatives, activists, scholars, media networks, researchers, lawyers, and other partners on the nexus between Sexual & Gender-based Violence (SGBV), and Adolescents’ Sexual, Reproductive Health, and Rights (ASRHR). In 2019 and 2018, I developed and facilitated 2 youth consultations in Tanzania and Botswana for the African Governance Architecture (AGA) to leverage the youth’s talents in governance mechanisms across Africa.

• Brand management and positioning: I helped the ACT Wazalendo party to build its public image by creating media relations strategies for positioning and popularizing the party’s leadership in Tanzania. This involved organizing newsroom visits and meetings with editors. I also developed a robust mobilization strategy for the party’s secretariat and mentored them on its usage to mobilize membership across the nation.

• Proposals and project management: I developed a proposal and managed a 5- month contract to provide advocacy support to UNICEF NY by reviewing the Nutrition in Emergencies (NIE) landscape to map current and potential funders, and to identify strategies and opportunities for positioning the NIE work. I also led the development of several others that resulted in contracts, like UNAIDS, the Aspen Institute, ACT Wazalendo, and participated in several others.

• Organizational development: I established and was in charge of organizing and running the monthly all-staff meeting, which also has a team-building component. I was also a member of the weekly leadership meeting and attended Niyel’s annual board meetings to input on organization policy and report on growth strategies. • Media Relations: I put together a training for journalists specializing in health to help them understand and report more on neglected tropical diseases, and then organized a forum for them to engage with health officials and their partners in the private sector like civil society representatives and human rights activists.

• Project design and management: I led the planning, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of our communications and popular mobilization campaigns like Give Against Ebola in 2014. This included financial aspects like budget preparation and managing the entire fundraising campaign.

• Stakeholder engagement: I engaged stakeholders at the global, continental, regional, and national levels on key issues like the lessons to learn for the protection of human rights after the Senegal presidential elections of 2012. 2

• Staff management: I managed staff in the communication department, and was the lead in developing and rolling out the organization’s internal and external communication plans.

RECENT SURVEYS THAT I HAVE LED:

• FHI-360 (2022): Gathered stakeholders’ perspectives to inform the design of a new membership guideline for the APCOM Regional Network, and a resource mobilization strategy.

• GNP+ and Aidsfonds (2021): Conducted a desk survey and interviewed stakeholders which led to the design of a global advocacy strategy for the Love Alliance network.

• UNICEF (2019 –2020): Reviewed the landscape of Nutrition in Emergencies to map funders, and their priorities, and to identify opportunities and moments for advocacy to raise its profile for increased funding.

• International Budget Partnership (2017): Assessed CSO’s capacities in budget analysis and advocacy in Francophone West Africa (Senegal, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Mali, and Benin).

• Hewlett Foundation (2016 -2017): Assessed the Nigeria and Ghana contexts on Transparency, Citizen Participation, and Accountability.

• NPA Rwanda (2016): Reviewed the advocacy capacities and preparedness of 15 national NGOs in Rwanda for the Public Policy Information Monitoring and Advocacy Project (Phase 3) – PPIMA.

STRATEGY DOCUMENTS I HAVE DEVELOPED:

• Aspen’s New Voices Fellowship Program (2020): I reviewed each fellow’s advocacy plans and developed guiding questions and notes that are tailored to each one’s plan, to help them finalize their context and target analyses, and fine-tune their advocacy objectives, strategies, and actions.

• International Center for Migration Policy Development (2018): Regional advocacy strategy to fight trafficking in persons in West Africa.

• Norwegian People’s Aid –Rwanda (2016): National advocacy strategy for the Public Policy Information Monitoring and Advocacy Project (Phase 3) – PPIMA.

• Trust Africa (2016): Regional advocacy strategy for small-holder farmers. RECENT TRAINING THAT I ORGANIZED:

• Training on advocacy essentials: In June 2019, I trained 15 leaders of youth-led organizations from 5 Anglophone countries in West Africa on how to use advocacy to engage their targets in policy-making organs. It was organized by the UNAIDS West and Central Africa Regional Office.

• Training on effective media relations: In May 2019, I trained civil society representatives who were advocating for better sanitation policies in Francophone West African countries. I also helped them learn how to capitalize on the growing potential of online platforms for their campaigns.

• Training on ethical leadership: Earlier in August 2018, I trained leaders of youth- led initiatives, representatives of civil society, and media practitioners to leverage their capacities in the fight against corruption. This was during the Africa Union's Southern & East Africa Regional Youth Consultation in Gaborone –Botswana. It was organized by the African Governance Architecture.
