PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
RLA Engineering
[MSA: managed service agreement with Hewlett-Packard Co.] Corvallis, OR
PWP Web Press, 3rd Party Solutions Group 11/2022-present
Customer Assurance Escalations, primarily for press platform devices
Tier 4 Escalation Support Engineer (Note: this was a lateral move without interruption from the previous MSA with RLA in Final Assembly, see next assignment below.)
Added to a support team that handles problems, upgrades, and improvements in the field related to new and installed presses and customers domestic and abroad.
●Help to relieve overloaded co-workers in their efforts to support an ever-expanding installed base of large format printing presses and their “platform devices”.
●Platform devices includes equipment that is auxiliary to the press to enable proper printing and finishing of the continuous media web: winders, diverters, coaters, moisturizers, cutting, stacking, drying, etc.
●Specific personal contributions included validation efforts on winders that will meet the aggressive speed, tension, and quality requirements across the variety of paper types that is demanded by the latest press designs. Also worked to address electrical safety issues, resolve documentation gaps, and represented the group in a multitude of planning and readiness meetings for layout changes, upgrades, and planned maintenance work on new and existing presses.
●Used prior experience and knowledge to preserve and strengthen relationships with vendors, suppliers, and customers while helping them resolve problems or plan new projects or equipment solutions.

Inkjet Final Assembly and Cruise Line 03/2014-10/2022
Develops and produces new generations of inkjet print-heads and supplies
HP is the leader in Inkjet Printing, using cutting edge materials, processes, and automated assembly techniques.
NPI Product & Process engineer
Hired into R&D team to perform product design (plastic parts, electro-mechanical systems and analysis). Transferred into an under-staffed manufacturing team, performing tasks very similar to work done during the bulk of my main HP career (see earlier work history, 1992-2012).
●Designed storage caps for two different products and supervised mold fabrication and prototype production for these parts. Both parts are currently being used with shippable product without issues. (R&D Product Design)
●Designed and supervised fabrication, debug, and implementation of several process tools and precision (50um repeatability) fixtures.
●Spent much of 2016 abroad, transferring an aging production line (Cruise) to Corvallis, where it continues to be used to support prototype and production product platforms.
ATS Automation, Corvallis, OR 2013-03/2014
Innovative supplier of automation equipment, from modular single-process cells to complete turn-key systems.
Applications Engineer
Assisted customers in generation of detailed technical specifications for process equipment, prepared detailed quotations and plans for development, fabrication and testing of new equipment. Pursued and validated new customer and new business opportunities.
Microsoft (Perceptive Pixel), Wilsonville, OR 2012-2013
This small company, which had just been acquired by Microsoft, invented and developed large-format touch displays for interactive business use. During the period of my employment, they were in the chaotic process of trying to translate and adapt what they had learned on a small scale to large-scale global markets.
Mechanical Engineer
Designed, fabricated, assembled, wired, programmed and tested a new machine for edge-sealing two sizes of large format touch screens.
Hewlett-Packard Co., Corvallis, OR 1992-2012
Develops and produces new generations of inkjet print-heads andsupplies
HP is the leader in Inkjet Printing, using cutting edge materials, processes, and automated assembly techniques.
Expert, 2001 – 2012
Led a variety of tooling design and capital acquisition projects involving high-speed automation and complex, state-of-the-art mechanical assembly processes.
●Balanced a heavy load of up to six tool design and process development projects with a team leader role requiring leading by example and mentoring more junior engineers. ● Reduced defects on adhesive dispense process from ~15% to near zero
●Improved overall line cycle time from 40ppm to 60ppm with no decrease in yield.
●Formally recognized for outstanding skills in project management, leadership, design, and documentation
Specialist, 1992-2001
Provided dependable, sound judgment and focused, broad technical skill in supporting existing processes and developing and characterizing new processes.
●Helped deliver at least 5 assembly lines, each one a $10-15M project, with cycle times between 40 and 80 ppm.
●Developed a new plastic welding machine requiring modification of an existing design to a fully automated and integrated system. This system improved yields for the process from less than 85% to over 99%. Characterization of the improved process also enabled elimination of a costly automated leak testing process.
Consarc, Albany, OR large-scale vacuum refining furnaces with an electron beam power source for titanium1991-1992 raw
Producer of material shapes
Mechanical Engineer, 1991-1992
Designed mechanical components, developed equipment documentation, supervised shop safety and QA department.
●Designed equipment “burn-in” test plan that has since been adopted in the industry
●Developed assembly procedure that eliminated waste and improved assembly time from 3 days to just over 2 days.
Aerojet,Manufacturer of rocket propulsion engines and thrusters, including Titan and Space Shuttle Orbital Rancho Cordova, CA 1986-1991
Maneuvering System (OMS) engines
Producibility Engineer, 1986-1991
Supported design reviews and provided DFM feedback. Gathered quotes for fabricated parts and supervised actual fabrication, assembly, test and documentation for small-scale rocket programs for the SDI (Star Wars) and NASP (National Aerospace Plane) programs.
