--Participate in pre-shift training 3 days per week.

_Attend group meetings to discuss concerns, suggestions and developments. Recommended that a whole day’s work be dispatched to each technician instead of 1 at a time. This would eliminate lost time returning to suppliers for parts that could have been picked up previously.

Position: Quality Liaison to Nissan

Duties: Tower Automotive manufactures the frame for the new Nissan Titan Pickup, Armada SUV, and Infinity SUV. I am Tower's continuing hands-on support at the Nissan plant for these vehicles.

My efforts are focused on identifying problems in manufacturing quality and coordinating the immediate repairs and subsequent process corrections. I do this by inspecting each frame for visible defects as it arrives on the production line. Obvious problems are repaired immediately. I also become Involved with all of the non-obvious fit-up problems that become visible as the components are assembled onto each frame.

Problems that are systemic such as evidenced by a weld fixture's weakening clamp are immediately reported to production management by telephone and subsequently followed up.

During the production shift the defect data is compiled by defect type and the serial number of the frame where the defect was found. This report is emailed to management outside the Madison plant, management at Madison, and quality/production supervision/maintenance technicians. The report is also posted on a communication board.

At the end of the shift, the report is discussed with my superior and others within the quality department

I interface with Nissan production line managers and product support engineers to inform them of repairs that are being made and assure them that corrective measures will be taken as required to prevent future problems.

Duties: The Calvert Company is an ISO registered manufacturer of high voltage isolated phase bus duct systems for the power generation and distribution industry. I was responsible for overseeing successful completion of (12) active projects with a total sales worth of $14 million. I handled the accounts of General Electric Power Systems and Bechtel International.

I became involved with projects at the point that a Purchase Order was received and closed the project when the last crate was delivered to the job site. This required close contact with the customer's project management and Calvert's Installation, Sales, Design Engineering, Document Control, Production Planning, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and Shipping departments on a continuing basis. It was my responsibility to understand all aspects of the contract and assure completion of all aspects of the project in accordance with the contract. This included establishing an MS Project milestone schedule showing development of design drawings, operation/maintenance manuals, materials purchase, production phases, and shipment. I often read part drawings and layouts to answer customer inquiries and determine the cost effect of design changes and Purchase Order change requests.

This was a fast-paced environment where there is extensive use of email, conference calling, document scanning, fax, telephone and FedEx mailing. The use of MS Outlook, Excel, and Word was required continuously. Calvert uses an AS-400 system to query material status, etc.

Position: Manufacturing Engineer

Duties: Worked in a fast-paced challenging atmosphere involving the production of

4-wheel drive cargo all-terrain vehicles(CATV). Initially, responsible for transfer of first product line from Chetec, WI., to Jackson, MS. This required knowing the manufacturing and assembly process inside out. Used CADD to re-layout Jackson's production area to accommodate space requirements. Then created production shop routings with material specs and equipment assignments. Was necessary to setup work center designations.

Presently involved in startup of next generation model of CATV. Created assembly workplace layout, material handling methods, detailed assembly procedures for each work station, determined and acquired all tooling, trained assembly personnel. Specified all fastener hardware on unit and worked with local vendor to obtain required plating on selected items. Set quality criteria and continue to constantly monitor the process. Revise individual part routings and specify use of stock materials to reduce cost. Improvement of throughput at expensive manufacturing processes(gas ovens) is being pursued.

Regularly use CADD system to confirm the use of latest revision parts and quickly resolve fit-up problems on the assembly floor. Also use BPCS computer based inventory control system to determine parts availability or work order progress through manufacturing. Use BPCS to maintain data base data concerning routings, material, and work centers.

Regularly involved with solving fit/form/function issues with Design Engineering, Machine Shop, and outside suppliers. Now working with Customer Service, Design Engineering, and Shipping to document a serial number system that will record all required configuration information for each individual unit. Quality issues involving component parts are being addressed with check fixtures for both in-process use and receiving inspection.
