PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Axbio Inc., Santa Clara, CA July 2022 – Present

Axbio Inc. is a pioneering company specializing in high throughput nanopore sequencing platform, in vitro molecular diagnostics, and biochips for cancer screening, pathogen detection, and drug development.

System Integration Engineer II

Initially hired as a Process Engineer I then quickly promoted to a project leader as R&D Engineer II in Jan. 2023. Serve as a key member in the System Integration team, leading and managing sequencing product development projects from proposal through project launch.

Spearheaded and managed a quality control and assurance project integrating the sequencer with a Zeiss fluorescent microscope for DNA sequencing mechanism validation. Collaborated with vendors and engineers to optimize mechanical parts and develop imaging analysis algorithms.

Chosen to develop the 4th generation nanopore sequencer product, ensuring software and hardware functionality per SOP. Documented performance, provided feedback for improvements, and communicated regularly with development teams, enhancing product reliability and market readiness.

Constructed and validated sequencing libraries through PCR amplification, end repair, A/T ligation, and purification, successfully validated DNA product using gel electrophoresis and fluorescent imaging.

Optimized the surface chemistry of silicon chips by streamlining SOP, cutting procedure time by 50% through detailed process analysis and experimental design.

University of California – Irvine, Irvine, CA Sep. 2017 – June 2022

Graduate Student Researcher

Led and accomplished the "Retinal Organoids On-a-Chip" project that aimed to overcome the challenges of long-term culture, quality control, and functional characterization of stem cell-derived retinal organoids.

Engineered and invented a specialized microfluidic bioreactor via finite element analysis (FEA), SOLIDWORKS, AutoCAD, 3D printing, and soft lithography techniques for the purpose of long-term tissue culture. Employed diverse biological tests such as qPCR, single-cell RNAseq, SEM, TEM, immunohistology, flow cytometry to assess tissue culture quality.

Conducted discovery research on non-invasive monitoring of retinal organoids using two-photon FILM and hyperspectral microscopy, revealing a metabolic shift and structural development over four months. Partnered across labs and introduced a deep learning algorithm that reduced phototoxicity.

Authored 4 journal papers and 10 conference abstracts. Holder of 1 patent. Proficient in technical writing, data analysis, documentation, and presentations. Experienced with project management tools.
