Experience

Custody Sergeant, SBSO 2013-2019

I recently retired from service as a Custody Deputy Sergeant. I have provided support in many roles to meet the needs of Custody Operations from Special Operation Response Team (S.O.R.T.) to Administrative Sergeant, responsible for an array of detailed documentation for archival and reporting requirements for the Sheriff’s Office Custody Operations in the Main Jail, located in Santa Barbara.

As a Custody Sergeant I have participated in many supervisory and nonsupervisory roles within Custody Operations. I have prepared numerous reports for criminal, statistical for state and internal departmental needs. I have provided statistical reports in responses to P.R.A. (Public Records Act). Provide response for investigative needs in the RAU (Risk Assessment Unit) for in-custody deaths.

I worked in conjunction with Homeland Security (I.C.E.) to create statistical data for all immigration deportees to insure state and federal laws were followed to maintain departmental compliance. I provided new/revised policies, directives in relation to Prison Rape Elimination Act (P.R.E.A.) and performed departmental and vender training to meet federal P.R.E.A. requirements. I was responsible for creating policy and determining facility needs to meet The Americans with Disabilities Act of 2012 (A.D.A.) standards for the State of California. Worked closely with County Counsel in response to litigation initiated by the Disability Rights of California (D.R.C.)

I provided responses for County litigation cases submitted as complaints and/or court filings for personal loss or damage to personal property while in custody.

Correctional Officer/Custody Deputy Special Duty 2001-2013

Supervise inmates while in the custody of the Sheriff. Maintain safety and security of the facility for staff and inmate population. Insure medical emergency needs are provided to maintain the health and welfare of persons incarcerated within the County Jail. Train newly hired custody Deputies in relation to Title-15 requirements along with meeting departmental standards.

I am computer literate in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. I have worked on many data entry systems from report writing to Jail Management Systems. I am capable of translating data points into policy and procedure, and working with others to ensure those policies are inclusive, effective, and enforceable. I am a quick learner, inquisitive and always face my challenges head-on. Musician/Jazz Trombonist.
