During the period when I decided to make the career change into the trucking industry. Seeing the ongoing high demand for drivers and the continuing growth within the freight market. I invested months doing research on; getting a CDL-Class A, type of school, self-pay or company paid, endorsements, differences between becoming a company driver verse an owner operator. What fleet; dry van, reefer, tanker. Which companies would hired new drivers, who offer the best driver training programs, etc. The amount of information and decisions that one must obtain and make is tremendous. I am very thankful for the time I have had to invest into obtaining the knowledge to guide me through on make my BEST career decision ever. I just wish I would have done this 10 years sooner.

MY WORK DUTIES:

Typical Daily Work Experience Related to Trucking:

Hauling/Towing/Material Handling:

I pulled an 8’ x 16’ enclosed tandem trailer almost daily, loaded with materials and tools to the project jobsite.

or

I pulled an 8.5’ x 20’ flatbed deck-over tandem trailer almost daily, loaded with materials to the project

jobsite.

These trailers were pulled with either a Duramax 2500 4x4 Crew Cab or a PowerStroke F250 Super Duty Crew Cab 4x4 give a total length of about a 40’ rig with the truck and trailer.

I have pulled some type of trailer for 10 years of my life, however; I do fully understand that it is Apple & Oranges between an 18-Wheeler Big Rig and a pick-up truck and trailer, but pulling a 40’ rig loaded with steel down the road sure counts for something or at least it does in my book. Making wide turns, driving with cars beside of you and not tailgating are things that become natural if you are a safe driver wither your pulling a loaded 20’ or a 53’ trailer.

I have 5 years of loading and offloading tractor trailers. From forklift dock work, yard lifts to jobsites using Lulls. From loading/unloading dry van to curtain side trailers. Being in the commercial door industry for most of my career it has put me in touch with the motor freight industry as well. Every product I delt with was received LTL or the full truck load and everything I shipped was the same. I have picked up a thousand orders at local freight companies in Charlotte, NC (South Eastern/USF Holland/Wilson/Cooper/etc.) because the pallets would be setting at the dock and not going out for delivery in time so I would go get it. This giving me the 1st hand experience of dealing with the freight companies, the paperwork (shipping papers) and the loading dock/office personnel. I have pulled a truck and trailer into the faculties and had them load pallets on to my trailer, sign the BOL and leave the facility without incident on countless occasions.

With all that said, I am still a rookie in the trucking industry and I have so much to learn. I am ready and willing to learn. I am excited and looking forward to this journey in my life with a good company that will give someone like me with my background and experiences a chance to prove myself once again that I can and will succeed in all that I do.

My duties have required me to work with property owners and or their representatives. CEO’s & VP’s from all types of businesses all the way to the entry level employee. I have worked hand in hand with Architects and PM’s to coordinate project progression. I attend 10 to 15 continuing education classes yearly for all aspects of the construction industry, including required hours of “CE” for state license renewals and to maintain all certifications. I have been managing projects, operating expenses and employees for the past 10 years of my career.

MY WORK DUTIES:

Typical Daily Work Experience NOT So Much Related to Trucking:

I have years of experience in the following:

Government projects and dealing with building codes, permits, blue prints, etc.

FDIA Fire Door inspector. I have no problem with travel as I have worked overseas to manage projects, I have a valid Passport, TWIC Card and Class-A CDL driver’s license.
