Food Inspection Supervisor, 01-12-2012 to present

Clearance: Department of Defense, Secret Clearance, April 2019 LEADERSHIP: Responsible for the continued successful development of approximately 80 inspectors, technicians and team leaders as well as providing technical guidance to senior personnel. In charge of several veterinary units providing food inspection and animal care support. Supervised the units’ personnel to include writing performance evaluations and conducting training for overall readiness. Mentored and coached junior soldiers to improve proficiency and leadership skills. Unit prevention leader ensuring compliance with Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP). CONSUMER SAFETY INSPECTION: Managed Army installation food recall program. Ensured establishments produced safe products by executing appropriate inspection methods, determining non-compliance with regulatory requirements, documenting noncompliance and initiating enforcement action, where warranted. Collected, prepared, and transmitted food samples to laboratory for testing. Reviewed laboratory test results and compared to product requirements. Experienced with the use of agricultural commodity grading standards for production, inspection, quality control, and receiving of agricultural products. Verified that meat, poultry, produce, and dairy processing department’s Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) plans met regulatory requirements. Conducted subsistence quality assurance inspections in food handling establishments, evaluated and recommended corrective actions for unsanitary conditions. Prepared and maintained quality history records and product verification records and distributed as required. Performed pest management, monitoring of packaged water supplies, and field sanitation procedures. Conducted sanitary inspections in military and commercial facilities. Conducted regulatory oversight in matters relating to product adulteration and misbranding.

OVERSEAS ASSIGMENTS: Provided food inspection, safety, and defense to assignments in Kuwait, Djibouti, South Korea, Belgium and Poland. Involved with commercial sanitary audits in Belgium, Germany, Netherlands, France and around 11 State is the US.

COMMUNICATION: Communicated with facility managers, owners and others to explain legal and regulatory requirements, discuss operation of the facility's SSOP, HACCP plan and other food safety programs. Communicated and defended determinations on non-compliance issues and discussed plans for addressing non- compliance. Worked with a variety of individuals to resolve problems, clarify differences of interpretation concerning HACCP and other food safety or consumer protection requirements. Communicated with other inspectors, supervisors and officers on inspection and enforcement matters.

LOGISTICS: Unit movement officer responsible for keeping the commander apprised of readiness status and serving as liaison to logistics functions. Prepared unit for deployment; arranged and coordinated the safe and efficient movement of personnel and equipment to training and exercise locations. Executed agricultural wash inspections of 250 pieces of equipment deployed to the European region to ensure equipment was free of invasive species and complied with foreign agricultural restrictions.
