Professional Experience
Eighth Grade Literature and Writing Teacher at The Classical Academy
August 2021 to May 2023
Taught three sections of ninth grade Literature and writing each year as well as 2-3 sections of tenth grade World Literature. Each section included approximately twenty to twenty-five students. One ninth grade section was Honors which required different planning, grading, and discussion. These classes required varied Mclassroom management because of the different maturity level of students. Combined discipline plan with effective measures and various lesson plans to increase concentration, participation, and progress of student learning. I received consistent positive teacher evaluations as well as positive feedback from students, and verbal/written feedback from parents regarding classroom instruction, student learning success, and character development. I met with parents to resolve conflicts in educational priorities and issues. Designed lesson plans focused on age and level-appropriate material, in addition to developing interesting course plans to meet academic, intellectual, and social needs of students. Additionally, each grade level had students who were on learning plans, so incorporating their learning needs combined with those without learning needs was implemented.
August 2012 to May 2021
Taught five to six sections of eighth grade Literature and writing each year. Each section included approximately twenty to twenty-five students. Designed lesson plans focused on age and level-appropriate material, in addition to developing interesting course plans to meet academic, intellectual and social needs of students. Two of my classes were enrichment, and there were students on IEP’s and 504’s integrated into the general education English sections. I was able to work individually with students who needed extra help using scaffolding and differentiated techniques.
Substitute teaching and Long-term substitute teaching at the Peyton School District
February 2004 to May 2012

I established and enforced rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among six classes of fifteen to twenty-five students. Developed, administered and corrected tests, quizzes, and homework assignment in a timely manner. Developed and taught lessons on relevant books, poems, and grammar and writing activities. I performed these responsibilities during the spring semesters of 2010 and 2011. The remainder of the time, I substitute taught for various teachers and subjects for grades kindergarten through twelfth.
