Plant Manager Jun. 1997- Jul 2005
Performed role of plant manager responsible for leading, hiring and developing supervisors and maintenance staff. Followed and met key operating targets including safety, turnover, quality sales, and margin. Reduced rework from 7.39% in 1999 to 1.39% in 2004. Successfully increased capacity of the plant from $2.9M in annual sales to over $7.9M in annual sales through hiring, training, insourcing of machining, fixture design, purchase of a second building, and the purchase and installation of three new plasma spray lines. Responsible for merging both the “Bio-Coat” and “Bio-Vac” divisions of Orchid into one division “Orchid Detroit”. As the business grew, I had the opportunity to wear many hats including, human resources, quality, engineering, purchasing and R&D. Later as General Manager I would have the opportunity to hire professionals for each of these roles.
Robotics Operator Sept. 1996- Nov 1997
Wrote programs for new implants, trained other robot operators, and performed all equipment preventative and reactive maintenance. Worked with the former owner to develop a new titanium plasma spray coating for orthopedic implants. Quickly became the subject matter expert for HA and TPS coatings. Programing included FANUC, ABB and Kawasaki robots.
