Coordinate with the finance department, reviewing all post-meeting expenses and bills to ensure events stay within established budgets.

Director of Events

Planned and directed approximately 80 large-scale expo/tradeshow/conference events a year and led full-life cycle design-build-execute-close out in support of a nationally known event company. Oversaw complete range of internal project actions and external/internal client and vendor relationships, with event contracts ranging from $10k to $900k, for a yearly average of $2M managed contracts. Controlled $1M in operations and personnel budget funds, with a permanent staff of 10 for ongoing event project planning and execution, and teams from 10 to 100 for event execution. Event attendance could run into the thousands over a multi-day event, with many individual internal conference breakout sessions and other events running concurrently. Routinely served as Event Lead for the largest events while simultaneously directing subordinate team leaders overseeing other events.

Business Process Improvement. Developed standardized event agreement terms and conditions for risk to improve internal management processes and align standards across the enterprise. Employ this method successfully as smaller companies are acquired as the enterprise grows, ensuring fast assimilation and standardization of the new companies, contributing to immediate revenue returns from the new company elements being ready to plan and execute event contracts faster with the new process, bring their clients to the enterprise and train new staff in standard operating procedures.

Program Evaluation. Implemented quarterly performance diagnostics and Key Performance Indicators based on client surveys and internal cost analyses to improve event planning, resource management and standard operating procedures. Resulted in reduced event costs, improved profit margins and extremely satisfied clients.

Resource Management. Researched, introduced, and implemented work management software applications to more efficiently manage internal operations, and significantly decrease human work cost. Integrated new technology applications into daily operations that resulted in reduced event costs and increased net revenue across all projects.

Coalition/Business/Partnership Builder. Building on a solid track record of years of experience, initiated partnerships among key staff of Fortune 100 companies, and event vendors and suppliers to create win-win events. Spearheaded collaborative relationships, particularly with Fortune 100 clients and the Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Women Business Enterprise (WBE) on a national scale, culminated in extremely successful annual event contracts for the National Minority Supplier Development (NMSDC) conference. Relationship building resulted in the desired return on investment and meeting corporate goals.

Program Manager, Federal Event Focus 1993 to 2010

Oversaw full lifecycle event planning, resourcing, and execution with a focus on Federal contract events, demonstrating deep expertise in the government contracting process. Directed all work for 6 government contracts per year, with 8 to 10 annual projects per client, for approximately 4 to 50 events per contract year. Contracts ranged into six figures.

Federal Contract Expertise. Excelled as the company’s direct liaison to the Federal Contracting Officer’s Representative (COTR), ensuring contract compliance and execution with myriad Federal agency policies and Federal regulations. A client-focused and collaborative approach created a positive relationship, which yielded contract renewals and new business.

Resource Allocation for Maximum Program Effectiveness. Employed risk analysis skills to improve project scoping and budgeting in the areas of staffing and resource allocation. Improved tracking of key financial factors, thus improving profitability of events from lessons learned. Created a new process for the company’s program evaluation processes utilizing business metrics to identify best practices in program implementation.
