Provide pain management and Infection prevention care after surgery. Monitor pre-op checklist for surgery to meet the maximum benefit. Monitor possible post-op complications and sepsis protocol Working with physical therapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT) to help them return to daily activities such as walking and increasing mobility. Assist patient to ambulate the same day of surgery to prevent potential medical complications from laying in the bed.
Administer proper pain medications to allow the patient to effectively participate in PT/OT, which increases the chance of a promising recovery. Observe the wound during dressing changes for signs of infection, wound dehiscence, or increased bleeding.
Monitor and empty surgical draining devices that are placed after surgery. Provide discharge teaching.
