Computer Operator - Perform system administrator duties on a Solaris 10 system by adding users to the system, performing backups, monitoring system audits, performing system critical file downloads, assisting customers, performing system upgrades, as well as identifying and resolving application glitches. Departed for Medical Reasons which have since been resolved.
September 2000 – Present. First Christian Church of Manteca, Manteca, CA.
Volunteer. Performed duties as Treasurer for seven years which required that I convert the bookkeeping system to Microsoft Money, create a budget, and develop financial reports for presentation to the church board. Set up a Microsoft wireless network that included three computers (one WinXP and two Win2K) and also setup a print server to manage two printers. Also perform duties as the all around support person to include upgrading hardware (motherboards, memory, hard drives, and CPUs) as well as upgrading Windows operating systems. My latest project is the replacement of the stained glass windows.
Aug 1996 – May 2006 State of California, Sacramento, CA.
Staff Programmer Analyst. Windows 2000 system administrator and Oracle DBA. Installed software upgrades, wrote programs using Visual Studio 6.0, VBA, and Access 2002. Generated reports for contract administration. Performed general computer support for the SafetyNet Unit.
Staff Programmer Analyst. Modified programs which make up the Outside Collections Agency portion of the Accounts Receivable Collections System (ARCS). Required knowledge of COBOL, C, Sybase SQL, and UNIX. Also performed research on program execution and procedural anomalies. Make recommendations for proper resolution.
Staff Programmer Analyst. Performed duties as database software developer on a Sybase management decision system running under Sun Solaris 8.0. Wrote ad hoc reports as required. Also developed programs in Access 2002 for various special projects using ODBC to tie into Sybase or converting programs from FileMaker Pro. Acted as the UNIX systems administrator for the Sun Solaris boxes and perform Sybase 12.5 database administrator duties.
Staff Information Systems Analyst. Was responsible for the establishment of the Project Support Office (PSO) at the State Treasurer’s Office. This task consisted of collecting policies/procedures, if they existed, and creating relevant ones if they did not. Budget concerns cut this task short. Also managed and developed an Access 2000 project that electronically transmitted deposits from other state agencies to the treasurers office which will facilitate reconciliation with other banking institutions. Provided management reports and strategies as requested.
Data Processing Manager I. Managed an eleven person software development unit (Human Resource Systems) of Oracle Programmer/Analyst and Information System Analyst at the California Highway Patrol. Unit was involved in Oracle program development and the modification of the Oracle Financials suite of programs. Also performed project management duties in relation to the development effort.
Staff & Associate Programmer Analyst. Responsible for the documentation, maintenance, error resolution, and modification of a mainframe Item Processing system for the State Treasurer’s Office. Assisted in the analysis of the current system as well as the selection of a proposed hardware and software Year 2000 compliant system. Programmed in COBOL,

modified assembler macros, modified check sorter parameters, and wrote JCL streams. Was involved in the design and conversion of the Item Processing system to a client server system, which required the design of reports, files, files conversion, and accumulator files. Programmed in C/C++, on a Windows NT server, a total of 19 programs that produced 21 reports and 16 files. Effort involved over 12,000 lines of code. Interfaced with the users to resolve priorities and assist in changing requirements. Set up FTP procedures to reduce dependence on tapes and generated three volumes of comprehensive documentation.

Senior Systems Analyst. Performed duties as a BSD UNIX system administrator on a system using a dual ported UNIX operating system. Tasks included writing shell scripts for tape backups and report generation, writing Perl programs to perform system surveys, and providing user assistance for a command unique support system. Documented system procedures and trained users in the execution of these procedures. Performed disk usage management, user information account maintenance, and security functions as required. Researched communication anomalies dealing with networking and sendmail.
Computer Tech Integrators, Sacramento, CA.
Security Analyst. Performed duties as the technical lead on a team that performed a risk assessment on the Wide Area Network (WAN) at McClellan, AFB. Participated in the collection phase to determine the scope of the network, analyzed the collected data, and assisted in the preparation of the criteria for testing the identified weaknesses. Occupied a lead position in the actual testing and evaluation of the test results. Was instrumental in the preparation of the risk assessment document as well as editing the document prior to presentation. Also participated in the preparation of the out-briefing for the command staff and presented the technical portion of that briefing.
Kelly Temporary Services, Stockton, CA.
Computer Programmer/Analyst. Managed a Lantastic Ethernet network server, setup PC equipment, installed and upgraded software products, and instructed users as required. Designed a replacement Novell Network for the plant, evaluated the cost of new equipment, evaluated the production control software, and made recommendations to management. Wrote programs in Paradox to enhance the HR function and designed, programmed, and documented a Drill Inventory Management system for production drill presses in Basic. Documented the network and server functions.
COMP-U-OPS, LTD, Sacramento, CA.
Computer Operator. Worked as an Operations Technician and was responsible for the operations of a Concurrent 6380 system in preparation for the conversion to a DEC VAX 6630 system. This required learning the current operations requirements and the new operations requirements in order to assist in the transition. Assisted in the installation of networking equipment, was instrumental in establishing a tape library, and documented operations procedures.

Customer Service Representative. Performed duties on an extensive income tax submission network. Tasks included assisting customers in the operation of software for filing electronic tax returns, analyzing network and software problems, and helped resolve tax preparation questions.
H & R Block, Manteca, CA.
Tax Preparer. Interviewed clients, evaluated their correct tax situation, and prepared federal and/or state income tax returns as required. Also submitted electronic tax returns on CompuServe.
May 1990 - August 1992 SofTech, Inc. & TRESP, Livermore, CA.
Classified Information System Security Analyst. Evaluated ADP Security Plans to ensure that the plans were complete and met Department of Energy regulatory requirements. Performed on-site surveys to verify that controls described in the Security Plan were implemented and functioning properly. Recommended the approval or disapproval of the information system based on survey results. Developed policy replies in response to information security related correspondence. Evaluated security software or software features. Performed the duties of Computer System Security Officer (CSSO) for the Safeguards and Security Division.
April 1986 - April 1990 Lawrence Livermore Natl. Lab, Livermore, CA.
ULTRIX System Administrator. Worked on VAX 11/750, 11/780, & 6310 and UTS on Amdahl 5868. Modified C programs and assisted in the installation of kernel upgrades. required. Performed security duties by running password checkers, analyzing system logs, monitoring system usage. Also,
wrote shell scripts to audit operations and wrote the operational procedure manuals.
Computer Operator. Monitored the Timesharing System on CRAY computers and ran batch jobs. Performed rotational backups for approximately eleven VAX UNIX systems. Wrote the backup manual, established retention procedures, reorganized the tape library, and automated the tape labeling system.
November 1985 - April 1986 Software Marketing Associates, Manteca, CA.
Owner. Wrote a complex auto marketing data base system, which was marketed in the local area. The database was an index sequential link list and contained 14 programs, one of which was a report program generator. Established and maintained the company records, developed marketing literature, established supply sources, assisted in the marketing of the product, and installed the product for the customer.
December 1984 - September 1985 Sharpe Army Depot, Lathrop, CA.
Supply Systems Analyst. Evaluated procedures to automate the manual supply operations of the supply depot. Matched the written functional statements to the actual operation to ensure an accurate translation. Developed an automated method to track the results of this analysis and identify discrepancies. Also evaluated the software test plan and the system implementation plan and reported his findings to the Director of Supply.
August 1982 - November 1984 Texas State Credit Company, Waco, TX.
Manager of MIS and Accounting. Monitored personnel performance, established a periodic personnel evaluation procedure and formalized personnel policies. Performed feasibility studies for various projects as a member of the board. Modified a single-user general ledger system on a UNIVAC BC7 using RPG II into a multi-user system. Wrote the computer operations procedures and trained the accounting personnel to operate the system. Evaluated and recommended an automated cash register system for one of the company’s ventures. Established audit procedures to account for all cash and balance the cash drawers. Procured an IBM System 34, performed site preparation, oversaw the hardware installation, sysgen'ed the system, and selected the accounting software during a changeover from the UNIVAC system. Rewrote the chart of accounts for twenty-eight companies to establish standardization. Programmed and installed micros in twenty-eight stores. Wrote a category type inventory program in BASIC which reduced inventory equipment cost by one-third.
April 1982 - July 1982 Central Telephone Company, Killeen, TX.
Senior Systems Analyst. Trained the computer operator in computer operations and the programmer in COBOL on an IBM 9100. Performed problem determination and correction on the communications system (SNA). Designed and programmed a fuel consumption system on an IBM 1110 in basic which tracked fuel consumption by vehicle and class of vehicle. Was responsible for the maintenance, modification, and development of programs in support of the accounting division.
July 1979 - March 1982 US Army, Ft. Hood, TX.
Computer Programming Officer. Trained personnel in COBOL, JCL, and analysis techniques on an IBM 370/155. Supervised the maintenance of the standard military software systems of supply, payroll, and personnel. Acted as the project officer for command unique systems. Established a programmer training program through a local junior college.
Computer Operations Officer. Managed a three shift, seven day a week IBM 370/155 & 360/40 operation. Was responsible for personnel management and training, workflow organization and scheduling, customer relations, and supplies. Established a quality control section to monitor and improve outgoing production. Established a training program to ease personnel shortages and to increase production while decreasing avoidable errors. Performed duties as the ADP System Security Officer (ADPSSO) which included site accreditation and certification.
