2010-20 Research Scientist, M.I.T., Biomaterials Science & Engineering Laboratory Investigation into the cellular and genetic mechanisms underlying the pathology of neuro-degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. Biophysical studies on the aggregation of β-amyloid peptide and how specific antioxidant polyphenols intercalate and interfere with the stacking of β-amyloid peptide thus inhibiting fibrillogenesis. Studies on the cytokines expressed by activated astrocytes and its modulation by these polyphenols. Computational genomic analyses investigating the transcriptomic changes induced in mice by oil palm phenolic compounds and investigating potential new Alzheimer’s drugs from phytochemical extracts.
2016-17 Graduate Thesis research MMSc in Immunology, Harvard Medical School (while working at MIT) Thesis on computational genomic analyses investigating the role of the zinc-finger transcription factor SALL4 on leukemogenesis during the development of acute myeloid leukemia in adults. Discovered that a unique set of transcription factors are induced in those acute B-cell leukemias which contain a t(8;14) chromosomal translocation, which is also often found in cases of EBV-induced Burkitt’s lymphoma
