Work Experience
Controlled Substance Specialist
Wellstar Health System - North Fulton - Roswell, GA March 2022 to Present
My duties include but are not limited to, verifying the validity of narcotic movement from the main pharmacy controlled substance vault throughout the entirety of the hospital daily. Reviewing important reports that detail the administration to patients, the return, and or the waste of controlled substances, in order to properly file and keep record of said reports. I also stay in constant contact with nurses, nurse leadership and pharmacy leadership when I detect narcotic discrepancies and or unreconciled doses via my reports. I’m responsible for contacting 3rd party contractors when it’s time for our expired controlled substances to be picked up and credited. As well as contacting our 3rd party contractors when it’s time to pick up the filed reports throughout the year, they keep these for 7 years in order to properly audit. I’m responsible for receiving and the rotation of narcotic stock in our controlled substance vault, updating the counts and keeping track of the nearest expiration dates weekly. I am also a part of the SMACS committee, participating in meetings where we discuss rules an regulations regarding controlled substances across the entire Wellstar Health System, while also sharing ideas on how to make each facility more efficient in dealing with narcotics. Additionally, I prepare a dashboard, detailing our controlled substance usage, waste, discrepancies, overrides metrics etc. monthly which is presented during these meetings. In the role adaptability is key, as it is in constant change and new and improved ideas are always presented. Pharmacy Traveler - Wellstar North Fulton
CareerStaff Unlimited - Roswell, GA
November 2021 to March 2022
As a pharmacy traveler you are expected to apply all past knowledge and experience into the position at your contracted hospital. In contrast to being stationed at one hospital and having set duties, I was responsible for compounding and preparing IV’s, as well as main pharmacy duties such as pulling medications that need to be stocked and sorting the patient specific medications in order for it all to be transported throughout the floors. Additionally, I learned how to navigate throughout the OR (Operating Rooms) to ensure emergency medication and narcotics are properly distributed and accounted for in the anaesthesia carts.
Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT)
Emory University Hospital - Midtown - Atlanta, GA
December 2019 to March 2022
Working in a hospital setting, specifically, Inpatient Pharmacy, that is also a teaching hospital requires similar, yet different sets of skills. Not only is my previous knowledge and experience in pharmaceutical sales, and patient care applied, But new skills such as team building, aseptic technique, and coaching are adopted. Becoming a leader and coaching is one of our main objectives due to the high volume of new oncoming staff, and students. I am responsible for the preparation and distribution of medication throughout the inpatient side of the hospital. At emory, I have successfully completed my IV training, using aseptic techniques to successfully compound sterile and non-sterile IV’s. An example of a sterile compound would be Oxytocin, used to stimulate uterine contractions and lactation during a woman’s childbirth process. Additionally, an example of a non-sterile compound would be a topical solution, used for burns, rashes, sores etc. Self management and time management are ever so important in a hospital because patient care, which includes delivery of their scheduled medications by the due time is top priority.
