Professional Experience

Abernethy Contracting November 2005 - February 2024 Fleet & Facilities Manager

My journey began as a laborer/equipment operator. I quickly gained my CDL and filled in as a dump truck driver/equipment hauler when needed. I took on all roles and responsibilities that were offered to me. Began working on all company equipment/fleet vehicles during this time, continuing to increase my mechanic abilities. Gained skills as a welder/fabricator. My past IT experience allowed me to function in the role of all things IT for the company. Chose to take on the role of Safety Officer from 2015 through 2022. Was responsible for all OSHA compliance and company- wide training for all employees. Gained various safety certifications through this process. Became NC Notary to handle company payment applications with all contractors and subcontractors. Moved into the lead mechanic role in 2018. In this role I was responsible for maintenance and repairs for all company heavy equipment and the entire vehicle fleet, both commercial and non-commercial. Became Shop Manager in 2019. Company merger in 2023 saw a move into the Fleet & Facilities Manager role. Responsible for entirety of company fleet from pickups to Class 8 tractor trailers. Both performed and oversaw all vehicle repairs and maintenance. Responsible for all fleet DOT Compliance, both state and Federal. This includes quarterly and annual regulatory filings with IFTA, NCDOT, and USDOT. Responsible for licensing, titles, and renewals as well. Assisted in vehicle program design and purchases as well as working with AP and invoicing for vendor payment. Responsibilities as the facility manager included regular interactions with support/supply vendors such as Fuel & Lube providers, Fleet Parts suppliers, and all other outside vendors related to both Fleet and Facilities. Vendor relationships and contract negotiations were a key part of the position. Created and managed parts inventory. Oversaw maintenance and repairs for all company facilities. Managed all shop mechanics and scheduling of fleet maintenance and repair work. During the past year I was also able to lean on my IT experience again in helping to negotiate a contract with a new IT vendor. Aided in designing a new company shop in sourcing equipment and vendors to support the business into the future. Worked hand in hand on a daily basis with all department heads.

Began in a Level 1 support role for all company software. Quickly moved into L2 production support, working directly with clients such as BofA, SSB, Wells Fargo, MetLife, Charles Schwab, and others for producing finanicial documentation.
