Mohawk Industries: Senior Manager Quality Process Engineering 5/2017-9/2018

Led $10,000,000 in extrusion upgrade projects, providing potential 25% throughput in production capability. This included selection of key components for quench, blending, extruder design, bulking technology, and winders for carpet yarns.

Completed upgrade of chemical testing lab at one extrusion site, including new viscometers, hoods, and developed new incoming test for caprolactam purity feeding nylon 6 polymerization.

Beaulieu Carpet, Dalton, Georgia and Bridgeport, Alabama

Senior Engineer 2013-2017

•Modified additive selection for advanced carpet UV resistance and saved $500,000 per year.

•Developed improved color concentrate sourcing which reduced extrusion breaks 25% and thereby increased yields by 15% on critical carpet yarns. Identified need for reduced moisture levels for PET extrusion, installed new moisture measurement devices providing better performance. In key yarns this provided 40% reduction in extrusion breaks and 20% improvement in downstream processing.

PAPA SHOE’S HOME IMPROVEMENT, LLC, Chattanooga, Tennessee

Owner/CEO, 2010-2013

Business owner. Governed the reconstruction of foreclosed homes. Most of this work was done as independent contractor company for Real Estate companies, as well as Freddy Mac and Fannie Mae.

•Cleaned up and modified over 500 foreclosed houses, including remodeling interiors, roofing, exterior siding, and landscaping.

INVISTA, Chattanooga, Tennessee

Senior Research Fellow, 2005-2009

Led new product development in textile nylon. Identified ground breaking comfort technology for controlling temperature of garments through a phase change additive extruded directly into nylon fibers. Developed extrusion sheath/core product incorporating the phase change material provided by outside company, which cooled wearer when user was hot and heated when user was cold. Surveyed field of antimicrobial additives, selected optimum silver product, and worked with Korean manufacturers to develop an antimicrobial fabric that was durable through long-term garment use and washings. The product prevented odor and allowed reuse for workouts and sporting activity.

•Managed international acquisition of externally developed technology, leading formation of joint development agreements for $5,000,000 in sales.

E.I DUPONT DE NEMOURS, Chattanooga, Tennessee, Senior Research Fellow, 1993-2005.

Led team in commercializing multiple new nylon products, (sales of $50,000,000), financial analysis, and safety clearances. Oversaw $1,000,000 annual budget. Led commercial ant-microbial fibers and fabrics project. Developed thermal stabilization via phase-change materials. Modified cross-section fibers for enhanced visual appeal. Developed patented bicomponent nylon fiber which stretched like Lycra but performed in a superior way in cold temperatures. Acquired by North Face and other high-end outdoor apparel companies. Biocomponent fibers also provided superior very low denier product for hosiery. Collaborated with outside vendor and installed high-speed extrusion processes eventually commercialized in both Chattanooga and Monterrey Mexico, thereby providing 30 higher capacity of both nylon 6-6 and nylon 6.

E.I Dupont de Nemours/Site R&D Manager, Luxembourg, Europe, 1989-1993. Developed Tyvek non-woven house wrap. Commercialized numerous non-woven and fiber products, including Tyvek non-woven products for thermal conservation in housing construction. Introduced modified cross-section nylon fibers for moisture movement and enhanced visual appeal in intimate apparel. Created commercial fabrics with antimicrobial attributes.
