Internship -August 2023-December 2023

Works collaboratively to ensure Milwaukee children ages 0 - 3 years old have access to environments that promote academic, social-emotional, and overall healthy development.

OECI uses literacy and language activities to spark early learning and interactions between children and their caregivers or trusted messengers.

The Internship position works with the OECI director at an offsite location to perform assigned tasks, notwithstanding any mandates given by the City of Milwaukee Health Department. The Intern will contact families participating or interested in programs offered by OECI each week to assess their needs relating to early education or barriers preventing participation in early education activities. The Intern will connect families to free and low-cost resources identified by the families as a need and follow up to address the obstacles where possible.

The Intern will create a spreadsheet to document vital family information, log contact notes, list needs identified by the family, list obstacles if applicable, follow-up, and outcomes.

The Intern will attend and assist with coordinating OECI-led activities when available and write a reflective summary of the outputs, outcomes, barriers, and personal-self growth opportunities.

Scheduled hours will be evenings, weekends, and weekday business hours when the Intern is available. The intern will use the OECI cell phone and laptop to make calls and contact families when in-office work is completed or remote work required due for health-related reasons. Otherwise, Intern may use their own devices and work remotely.
