Psychiatric Technician Cares for mentally impaired and / or emotionally impaired individuals following the physicians’ instructions and hospital procedures. Monitors patients physical and emotional well being and report to medical staff. Participate in rehabilitation and treatment programs, assist with personal hygiene, which includes bathing, keeping beds, clothing and living area cleans and assist the nursing staff administer oral medications and hypodermic injection.

Monitor the individuals in their group home and ensure their safety during the overnight hours. I am responsible for their care both physical and medical. This may include but not limited to checking on them every hour throughout the night, make sure they are comfortable and that all medicine is given at the correct time and the correct dosage. I am responsible to make sure they have cooked meals and that they are given the opportunity to learn how to cook, clean, iron, laundry and basic self-help skills needed to be able to manage for themselves. Basically, a hands-on instructor and a life coach motivator. Answering the telephones was a major part of a triage position. Your telephone interaction is the first and most important part of the job, how one would handle the initial call, could make the difference in a person’s decision to follow through on a life changing decision. Good customer service on the telephone was a vital part of this job.
Take inbound and outbound calls to assess the level of crisis and appropriate intervention. Respond to crisis calls originating in the community as well as the office or referred hospitals, community agencies, police in the city of Nashville and County of Davidson, Tennessee. Coordinate with crisis team response to crisis calls. Provide intervention services to consumers via telephone to avert calls. Provide phone-assessed services to individuals who are experiencing any mental health crisis. Attempt to de-escalate to situations when individuals calling for help are suicidal and/ or homicidal or experiencing a type of psychosis and direct them to a safe place. Manage dispatch of client’s contingent to the needs and severity of the client’s situations. Provide support and linkage of resources to client and their family management. Triage the phone line for Chattanooga Crisis Team, the 1-800 state Line and Red Line. Ensure the safety of all clients who presented to the office for assessment, consult with nurses in the Crisis Resolution Center to ensure that each client who presents to the crisis department is medically stable before they are assessed and disposition for treatment. Document all incidents in accurate and legible format when hand written. Consult with consumer’s case managers to determine what is best for their consumer when they present to Mobile Crisis Department.

Customer service was very important to make sure that the person calling felt comfortable with me and that I was confident and concerned enough to be trusted speaking with me. Follow up with individuals who are left in their home with phone calls and Counseling to ensure client is stable. Attend all staff meetings.
