Managed, directed, coordinated and led 68-member maintenance group for all maintenance activities at two production units. Created and implemented preventive and predictive maintenance programs. Directed department’s efforts to achieve QS9000 certification.

Formulated and cultivated strategy for newly created position and led team in the introduction of new programs and procedures to perform maintenance on two operating blast furnaces. Successfully integrated planned maintenance and the central shops into the maintenance of the blast furnaces.

Guided QS9000 program for quality control, directed refinement of over 300 pages of technical documents and supervised implementation of the numerous requirements of the system. Obtained certification of QS9000 and department met a 15% tighter product chemistry requirement with our customers.

Analyzed series of costly breakdowns of a critical piece of equipment in the manufacturing operation, evaluated repair vendor options and retained a new vendor to repair equipment. Breakdowns of this equipment were eliminated and the department realized savings of over $66,000 per year.

Analyzed equipment supply situation, determined that a critical supplier was not meeting our needs, and developed plan to improve the situation. Analyzed options and selected new supplier for drill rods that increased on-time delivery of our products 100% and reduced production cost over $3,000 per month.

AK Steel Corporation – Middletown, OH (1993 to 1999)

Managed, directed and led 66-member maintenance group with an annual budget of $23 million and 18-person production unit with an annual budget of $24 million. Supervised safety program, revised and implemented department preventive maintenance program, and implemented numerous equipment upgrades.
