DUTIES PERFORMED

Install, configure, troubleshoot, repair and maintain satellite communication equipment and other peripherals.

Daily routine check and monitoring of all satellite communication stations physically and remotely. Install satellite communication links for Sector HQ and team sites through Satellites NSS7, Intelsat 25, Intelsat 901, Intelsat 902 and Intelsat 906. Upgrade of satellite communication Internet modems. Relocation of satellite communication equipment from one place to another. Resolve power issues. Perform investigation of frequency interference on UN communication links. Conduct video teleconference for various UN operational units. Providing effective and solid electrical grounding (earth) for both IDU and ODU to ensure smooth and stable operation.

Perform periodic preventive maintenance to eliminate minor technical problems to ensure seamless and optimal operation.

Write and compile daily, weekly, monthly and yearly reports for the satellite unit (SATU).

Testing of satellite communication components for quick and fast rectification and restoration during downtime of a site.

Implementation of all installation procedures accurately.

VSAT Link Commissioning: Performing Cross-Pol and CW tests.

Making sure the circuit breaker, changeover switch, UPS, and air conditioners are in good working condition.

Solving critical satellite communication problems to maintain site operation for users to keep performing their tasks.

User satisfaction is my prime and ultimate priority and goal.

Making sure Comms Room is always tidy and serene to avoid dust, dirt, and overheating to maintain equipment health and continuous function.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Install, operate, repair, and maintain:

a). Full range of C-Band and KU-Band Satellite Earth Stations, VSAT Earth Stations both fixed and transportable, with varying sizes (2.4M, 3.7M, 3.8M, 3.9M, 4.9M, and 7.3M).

b). RF Terminals such as HPAs (TWTA and SSPA), RF converters, Up/Down converters, Transceivers, along with LNA, LNB, and LNC.

c). Videoconference equipment and related interfaces.

Perform other related duties defined by the direct supervisor.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

Member of the Project Team that successfully installed/migrated UNAMID satellite internet connectivity from NSS7 satellite to Intelsat 25.

Configured, upgraded, installed, and troubleshooted satellite communication equipment.

Set up UMOJA satellite links in Sector South, Nyala.

Fixed daily satellite communication issues in Sector South.

Performed frequency shifting, frequency interference investigation, satellite IDU/ODU relocations.

Set up new satellite sites.

Configured and troubleshooted video conference equipment and conducted video conference operations.

Supervised and coordinated the integration of UNAMID Links to 1Star Link and from 1Star Link to DBAS Link using Newtec equipment for Sector Central.

Migrated ISP Link from Comtech 570 to NBB Link using Newtec equipment.

Acted as OIC for Sector Central Satellite Unit from July 2016 to June 2019.

Coordinated the installation of fourteen 50 KVA Generators in seven (7) team sites in Sector South, Nyala.
