EXPERIENCE

CAREGIVER – Washington State Seattle

April 2023 – September 2023

I worked in an Adult Home where I looked after a Dementia, Bed-bound and Stroke residents. I helped the residents with medication administration as per schedule. I assisted in personal hygiene and care which included bathing, using the toilet, cleaning up after bathing and grooming them. I assisted with cooking their meals and nutrition and helped feeding our Dementia resident as she was an old lady that wasn’t conversant, had to make sure that her food is blended or very soft as she had a choking problem. Even her water liquids had to be thickened to avoid the chocking problem with her.

I helped with mobility and made sure safe movement inside and outside of the home. I used proper transfer methods to transition from one position to the other to avoid injuries to both me and the residents.

I was hands-on in home maintenance and basic housekeeping. Making sure that the house is kept clean all the time from the kitchen, bathrooms, floors and making of beds. I also had to do laundry every day.

Keeping them company was natural to me as most of the times after the chores are done, I would engage in chats and conversations with the residents. I got to know their background, where they came from and how they ended up in an adult home.

Every day I had to fill in a Progress where I documented their general health, mental state, moods anything that was concerning I had to report it and document it.

This job taught me patience, unconditional love and I bonded with the residents as they were more vulnerable and dependent on me for most of their basic needs, the opportunity to talk to them increased. I got to know stories of their youth, their dreams and wishes for their future.

SAA Cabin Crew Member

November 1995 - August 2020

As a Flight Attendant I looked after the general health, safety and well-being of SAA passengers during flights, ensuring everyone onboard has a comfortable trip. I also dealt with problems and requests passengers may have whilst adhering to and enforcing all safety regulations.

On the day of duty I had to attend Pre-flight route briefing about working positions, the flight schedule, passengers we had on board, special passengers(the blind, the deaf, meet and assisted passengers, unaccompanied minors, young passengers, deportees and inadmissibles, etc)When I got on board I performed pre-flight checks to ensure safety equipment is working properly and that the plane is stocked with enough food and beverages for the duration of the flight, duty free trolleys were also loaded and that we had the keys for the trolleys. Did preparations for the flight before passengers boarded. I would then welcome our guests and direct them to their seats and assist in stowing the luggage in the stowage. As passengers were boarding announcements were made in English and also in the language of our departing destination or landing destination. We also made sure that we never seated inappropriate passengers in emergency exit doors, ie passengers that were not willing and those that were unable to help in opening the door in the event of an emergency. Passengers had to adhere to all safety procedures and demonstrations and ensuring that they follow safety procedures in an emergency.

When everyone had boarded we closed the doors and prepared the flight for departure, making sure everything is stowed away and that the cabin is sterile. After taking off the service would start where passengers are served with food and beverages.

Afterwards duty free items would be sold, I always volunteered as I loved selling on board for the incentives that came along with the sales. When we approached the destination we cleared the cabin for landing . We greeted the passengers off and helped all our special passengers out of the plane making sure that passengers leave the plane safely.

Completing flight report after the journey was also part of the job and writing it in detail as to everything that happened on board. I am also trained in First Aid should a passenger fall ill during the flight, and had to fight the fire in the event of a fire on board.

Duties :

Greeting passengers and checking boarding passes as they enter and exit the plane.

Ensuring the plane is neat and tidy.

Delivering food and drinks and selling duty free products.

Demonstrating safety procedures.

Checking seat belts and making sure luggage is secured.

Making sure safety equipment is in working order.

Administering First Aid if needed.

Writing Flight reports.
