Contributions

Here we would like to highlight some of his major innovative work that has made us to recommend him for this Award Nomination.

●Establishment of AMTF_ Helping Blood Disorders- 2003

First Non Profit set up in Pakistan that has been serving those with blood disorders (especially with Thalassemia Major) for Complete Clinical Care without charging a single penny.

oThe services include: Physician’s Consultancy, Lab & Diagnostics, Pharmacy Care, Echo & Ultrasound, Transfusion Services (under supervision of a separate Doctor and Nursing Staff), Food and Transportation.

oAt AMTF Dr. Qidwai is the first executive who planned and provide a complete Multidisciplinary Clinical Consultancy to his patients including Cardiology, Endocrinology, Neurology, Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, and General Hematology etc.

oDr. Qidwai is also the first and only person in Pakistan specialized in Haemoglobinopathy, thus at AMTF, he is the only person providing such Specialized Consultancy in person to his patients.

This makes our patients health outcomes much better than it peers.

●Establishment of Pakistan’s First Intensive Care Unit for Haem Oncology -2012

Dr. Qidwai has proposed, struggled, fought then achieved to establish such unit funded by Government of Japan. It was a big challenge to convince such a group of critics for this project to succeed among other giants, however by the grace of Almighty the project plan, approach and vision appealed to Government of Japan that they agreed to support. Thus AMTF again became able to adore this prestigious star on its shoulder (Credit goes to the thankless effort of Mr. Qidwai).

The Government of Japan has been visiting us for the scrutiny/audit of the project, on regular basis, inspecting the working manual, patients treated, staff efficiency, administration etc.

The project has benefited 4358 patients of Haem Oncology so far from the day of its opening.

●SALIFOME: Saving A Life In Front OF My Eyes -2016

The theme for 2011 Blood donor day by W.H.O was “More blood, More life” where it was emphasized that more people should get awareness regarding donating blood as they are carrying a precious gift which is beneficial to mankind.

The attitude and mindset of blood donors have been studied rigorously reported. However the most prominent reason reported in literature towards blood donation is altruism. In Pakistan Due to the humanitarian assistance of non- governmental organizations and Blood Donor organizations. Almost 1.5 million blood pints are collected annually in the country where majority of donation (65%) comes from replacement donors and a lesser percent from volunteer donors (i.e. 25%). The concept of “SALIFOME” was coined by Dr. Asim Qidwai and forwarded a novel idea an effort to amalgamate the blood donors with the recipients through a humanitarian binding force by creating an atmosphere. Saving a Life In front Of My Eyes (SALIFOME) which encompasses the missing emotional cum motivational link and is a kind of a connection/ a link/ a bonding which will move between a donor and the beneficiaries and help a blood donor club to keep donor retention for longer period of time. “First Pilot Study Project of AMTF”.

Operational Definition: “By placing the blood donation area opposite to blood receiving area where we can actually show the blood donors in real time the immediate benefits of donating blood. This will in turn induce in donor a feeling of attachment and emotional bondage with the recipient and keep the donor pool intact’”. Predicted Outcomes and Benefits: Immediate & Long Term. Donor immediate satisfaction, Long term engagement of donors, Establishment of large blood donor pool registration, Community education and Involvement to support for each other. SALIFOME would probably trigger intrinsic motivation and will keep the mankind support on long term mode to help each other.

●BOW: Blood Drive On Wheels-2018

In a consequence of SALIFOME, Blood Drive on Wheels (BOW) is another bright star at the horizon for getting community attracted toward blood donation for the vulnerable of the blood disorders. The project is just not limited to a mobile donation cart but to cover a whole blood bank with specialized team for collecting donation of blood by providing the most hygienic, secure, safe and clinically monitored environment to the donor community throughout Pakistan.

Securing this project to get a fund from the Government of Japan was like a dome to carry on head but by the grace of Almighty credit goes to the insight of Mr. Qidwai that after a punctilious review the Government of Japan has approved and funded this project as well. They pleasingly mentioned it that they trust on the leadership of Mr. Qidwai that granting another project to AMTF which is not usually happened them.
