Hello, My name is Maria Carrano. I’ve worked in the field of mental health and outreach services for 9yrs as a residential mental health counselor. I started out as a per diem shift worker taking on shifts that were giving 40 plus work hours a week. I worked inside of multiple group homes, mostly overnight shifts, but also worked day shifts too; with transportation of clients in the community, as well as subbing in for the group home behaviorist and teaching day program by doing educational groups or taking them out into the community to places such as the library. I was later offered a permanent position to work in one of the group homes as the residential house behaviorist. I interviewed and was hired 30-35 hours a week, and remained in that position for 5 years before having to resign.

The Head Start program has always been an amazing program that has made such a wonderful and positive impact on low income children and families within our communities and around the country. I know personally because I was a big part of the program back in 2010 and 2011. My son attended the Manchester Center Head-Start. I volunteered as the chairwoman for the center and then in 2011, I was voted policy counsel president of the Head Start program which was an honor and joy to be apart of. I have many fond memories, and my son thrived so much while in the program. He’s 16 years old today. Authorized to work in the US for any employer
