CAREER PROFILE

I am a professional and enthusiastic Clinical Officer who is committed to the profession of saving lives and making safe healthy living and practice a priority. I am very comfortable with making diagnoses of different ailments and disease, providing counseling when needed and follow up of my patients and clients. I am also comfortable with basic procedures like stitching, removal of foreign bodies, insertion and removal of Norplant, deliveries, among many others. I am also a willing learner, always looking for ways to improve service delivery, be it through learning new things or working to perfect what I already possess. I am also of the belief that referral is part of management. I believe learning is a lifetime process, leading me to hold the opinion that there is always more knowledge to be gathered, evidenced by the fact that I am always on the lookout for any CMEs (Continuous Medical Education) within my vicinity. Intern, Thika Level 5 Hospital, March 2016 – June 2017 Duties and responsibilities:

• Outpatient department: short history taking, diagnosing and prescribing proper medication, admitting and doing follow-ups and also liaising with nurses in triaging.

• Comprehensive Care Clinic (CCC): follow up of sero-reactive patients, initiating antiretroviral therapy, Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) prescription, counseling of patients on drug adherence and side effects, tuberculosis screening and TB prophylaxis in immunosuppressed patients and education on safe sexual practices.

• Casualty department; handling emergencies like organophosphate poisoning, road traffic accident victims, among other emergencies. I was also charged with taking brief history and sending for relevant radiological or lab investigations. Other duties included stitching, removal of foreign bodies, fixing and changing of catheters, wound cleaning, dressing, among others.

• Maternity: history taking, physical examination, diagnosing and managing obstetric complications, performing vaginal exams, delivery and discharge of patients, among others

• Gynecological ward: admitting patients, history taking, diagnosing and management of gynecological complications, physical exam, performing procedures like Manual Vacuum Aspiration, discharging and follow up of patients in the gynecological outpatient clinic (GOPC)

• Medical ward: history taking, physical exam and diagnosis of medical conditions, attending to emergencies like convulsions and Diabetic ketoacidosis among others, transfusing patients, performing procedures like assisting in insertion and removal of chest tubes, performing lumbar puncture, collecting blood samples for blood works and also following up of patients at the medical outpatient clinic (MOPC)

I worked as a salesperson, distributing drugs all over the country. I worked here for two months before I resigned to pursue a Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery at The Presbyterian University of East Africa.

INTERESTS/HOBBIES:

• Writing is my number one hobby. I write poems and rap songs in my free time, mostly being a gateway to pour my heart out on paper. Although I do not produce my writings to the public, except occasionally on social media platforms, it is a dream I harbor to one day do so.

• Listening to music. Shai Linne and Stephen the Levite are my particular favorites when it comes to music. Classical music and jazz also have a special place in my heart.

• I am also an avid reader of books that add value to my life and inspire me to be a better individual. Books like Think Big, by Doctor John Carson, and Who Moved My Cheese, by Doctor Spencer Johnson, are of particular interest. Common books with simple but deep rooted insight. REFEREES:
