Background: Mr. Mount has over 30 years experience in email support. His focus has changed with the email threat landscape. Thirty years ago, most corporate email systems were not internet exposed. Twenty years ago, companies were connecting to the internet with minimum threats. Mr. Mount has followed the threat prevention path. In his position as Sr. Engineer Email Cyber Defense, for a major aerospace and defense provider, email delivery was always an underlying responsibility, while responsibility for preventing threats was the primary focus. Mr. Mount also does DKIM/DMARC/SPF. Mr. Mount has experience using Proofpoint PPS and Proofpoint EFD.

Work History:

Northern Telecom (later renamed Nortel, no longer in business.) April 1993 – Nov 2002. Charles started as a 90-day temp C programmer. Based on recommendations from this assignment, July 1993, Charles was offered a position in the email group as an emergency replacement for an employee who moved to another job without proper notice. His position as Analyst Email Support was continued as temp, then contractor until 1999 when he became a Nortel employee. Nortel grew to about 80,000 mailboxes. Nortel used a Macintosh based email system, called QuickMail, their email was not internet connected. Charles –

• Developed the process for producing custom directories for each site.

• Managed the corporate FTP server (used like SharePoint is used today).

• Introduced the use of Unix/Sendmail servers to improve message delivery between sites. Deployed and Supported 3 Unix/Sendmail relay servers. Nortel outsourced Mr. Mount to CSC (later DXC) late 2002. (This was in the beginning of the failure of Nortel.)

CSC moved Mr. Mount to support United Technologies Corporation, UTC, (later renamed Raytheon Technologies Corporation, RTX) Jan. 2003 – Jan 2024. At times, Charles also supported the Dunn and Bradstreet account and the Shell Oil Products US (SOPUS) account for CSC.

At UTC/RTX, Charles

• Was lead for the corporate mail hubs.

o Including migration of traffic from 4 business unit specific mail hubs.

First using Sendmail-Switch,

Then Sendmail-Sentrion.

Now Proofpoint-PPS.

• Migration of more than 20 independent email systems to a single Exchange system.

• Consulted on the corporate solution for spam.

o Recommended selecting an external cloud provider, rather than an in-house freeware system.

• Set up an interim internal Spam Assassin solution (running on the mail hubs) while the company found a long term, external solution.

• Was administrator of the corporate Postini Anti-Spam Solution for more than 5 years

(2006-2011).

• Deployed, then managed DMZ relays to move email between the cloud email gateway and the mail hubs.

o First, using Sendmail-Switch,

o Then, Sendmail-Sentrion.

o Now, Proofpoint-PPS.

• Supported many small acquisitions and a few small divestitures.

• Has been admin of the corporate Proofpoint PPS cloud gateway solution since 2011.

• The acquisition of Goodrich (2012, 25,000 employees, $25 billion),

• The divestiture of Sikorski to Lockheed (2015-2016),

• The spin-off of Otis and Carrier to become independent businesses (2021-2022),

• Added DKIM signing for the remaining 60 domains at the Proofpoint gateway. Also added DMARC records and verified SPF records.

• Supported the move of the Exchange system to the MicroSoft GCC-High Cloud tenant.

• The move out of the Meriden and Newington datacenters,

• the merger of UTC with Raytheon (to become RTX). The RTX email system currently supports about 180,000 users in four major and about 60 legacy email domains (down from 240,000 users and 900 domains before the separation of Otis and Carrier.) The current inbound email volume is just over 2,000,000 messages per day. Skills include planning, building and management of Proofpoint clusters (cloud SAAS, hardware appliances or VM-ware); email fraud prevention using DMARC, DKIM and SPF

(Proofpoint_EFD). Charles has worked with DNS and firewall groups as needed, can search logs, trace messages, read email headers, and UNIX scripting (CSH and BASH). Mr. Mount started working from home while at Nortel and has continued during the UTC/RTX

(CSC/DXC) time. Mr. Mount is available for remote work nationwide (or on-site work in Nashville, Tennessee).
