To the Selection Committee,

This letter is intended to serve as an introduction. I, Robert Lorin Winn (Bob), would like to express my formal interest your position.

I believe your opening is a perfect fit for the unique skill set. With more than 30 years of management & operational experience. I am a senior manager at the Emerald Queen Casino, one of Washington state’s largest casinos. I am responsible for 10 food service units with annual sales of over $30 million. My background includes many years of operating or owning some of the best restaurants/night clubs in the market, whether they were in western Washington or Anchorage Alaska. I also have an extensive background working with government, NGOs and other specialty groups. I have a strong and successful background in marketing and sales. I have been a small business owner operator, general manager for large corporations and individual entrepreneurs, a territory manager with multiple locations and experienced with municipal, state and federal government partnerships. I have been the general manager of many different restaurant concepts from fine dining to fast casual. Be it in a sole proprietorship, large corporation or nightclub/entertainment venue. I have also owned and consulted on brewpub and brewery operations. One of my more interesting experiences was operating businesses within a governmental body overseen by a publicly elected board of directors.

It is my proven track record of positive growth year after year and my ability to control cost that speaks to my focus. I have also excelled at high volume food & liquor sales with large staffs of over 250. I pride myself on team development and my ability to work with a diverse staff. Even in the toughest of employee situations, termination, I have the employees thanking me for the opportunity and understanding that their actions dictated my actions. On the operations side, I have lived up to the highest of standards from the FDA food code to the local health department and even the Federal Joint Commission on Hospital Standards (JACO). I am a certified National Restaurant Association ServSafe Manager and a past instructor/proctor, teaching classes every month for the restaurant association, Cicerone Certified Beer Server and I am MAST and TIPS (Alcohol Service) certified.

My experience in the hospitality industry has allowed me to interact with thousands and thousands of people per year. This interaction has brought out the advocate in me, I have been a successful advocate for my children’s school, Chester Valley Elementary. As President of the PTA and “Bonds Yes” committee member, I was able to help secure the funding to renovate the school. Currently, I am part of a 40 member ABC (Alcohol Beverage Control) Board stakeholders group featuring members of law enforcement, health, mental health and the hospitality industry. I am active at all levels of government including the Anchorage Assembly, the state Legislature, the Governor’s office and the federal delegation. At this time, I am on the board of the Alaska Hospitality Retailers, a hospitality organization representing Full Service Restaurants, Hotels, Clubs, Coffee Shops, Retailers, and Fast Food Restaurants. I am Past President of both Anchorage CHARR(Alaska Hotel Cabaret and Restaurant Retailers), a trade organization representing the hospitality industry and Chester Valley elementary PTA. I make at least one trip to Juneau, Alaska during each year for the legislative session to advocate on behalf many different groups and organizations.

Additionally, I have done event & concert promotion and production; examples: Blues on the Green Festival 2-10, Bye Bye Bullies, Alaska to Louisiana a benefit from the Heart, Eagle River Bear Paw Festival, Taste of Tacoma, Zoobilee, KZOK Listener Appreciation Parties, KMPS Listener Appreciation Concerts, and Covington Days. These events range from hundreds to tens of thousands of people.

I am most proud of my ability to use my unique skill set to show positive growth and cost controlling then communicate this information, while developing a team around me that excels in all aspects of our operation. I believe these skills and my varied background would be a powerful asset to you and your team. I would relish the opportunity to work with your team during these times of financial instability with the Covid-19 issues and disposable income becoming less and less, it is important to maximize the economic potential of each opportunity as we move forward in our mission.

Sincerely,

Bob Winn

It has been brought to my attention that if you google Bob Winn or Bob Winn Alaska an Anchorage Daily News story comes up about a bar owner being arrested, the story is not about me. I was the Vice-President of the restaurant association, so their statement came from me. That is why my name is in the story.

Thank you again

Bob Winn
