Manufacturer of custom automated equipment for the food processing and manufacturing industry. All engineering work completed using Solidworks.

Mechanical Engineer

Design and detailing of fully automatic food processing equipment for the fast-food industry. Specify all automation equipment including linear (Linmot) and rotatory motion devices, servo motors and all mechanical components.

Reverse engineered a working prototype of a bun transfer station to make it production ready. This redesign was to make use of standard engineering processes, methods, and components. The project also required design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA).

Tasked as the primary liaison to working with Solidworks authorized reseller to implement a Solidworks EPDM vault system.

Contracted to The RDI Group, Itasca, Illinois, 8/2017-4/2019

Global manufacturer of automated roof shingle processing equipment, steel coil slitting and handling machines, and steel laser blanking equipment. All engineering work completed using Solidworks.

Mechanical Engineer

Layout, design and detailing of material handling conveyors, rotary conveyors, and load cell conveyors for high speed shingle processing equipment.

Reverse engineer of coil flattener, threading table, and uncoiler. These machines were originally designed in metric and all components had to be converted to Imperial (US customary, ANSI). All equipment required a 20% increased load carrying capability than the original equipment specifications.

Designed a rotary loading cart for steel coil handling. The cart was engineered to carry a coil more than 60,000 lbs. Used Solidworks simulation software for FEA.

Redesigned a customers’ existing fixed steel coil threading table with a double articulation feature to allow for the oiler to be moved when not in use and allow machine operators to pass-through the line.

Contracted to Yeaman Machine Technologies, Inc. Elk Grove Village, Illinois, 10/2016–06/2017

Manufacturer of commercial custom packaging equipment. All engineering work completed using Solidworks

Mechanical Design Engineer

Develop and design custom packaging production equipment (Continuous and intermittent motion Cartoners and Pouch machines) based on customer specification. This consists of all mechanical part and assembly documentation, selecting components and materials; creation of BOMs and exploded view drawings for assembly and technical operating manuals.

Work on standardization of custom packaging machines to utilize common components, hardware and sub-assemblies and simplify BOM’s.

Designed a powered test stand with settler assembly needed to simulate product flow and consistency as product enters bag in fill position, on pouch machines, per customer specification.

Ellis Corporation, Itasca, Illinois, 8/2012 – 6/2016

National manufacturer of industrial laundry and wastewater equipment. All engineering work completed using Solidworks

Mechanical Engineer

Lead Engineer responsible for a cost reduction project of a 2.7 million BTU WD7664 natural gas dryer. The scope of the project was to reduce the $100,000.00 manufacturing cost of the existing dryer by 20%, while including (4) value added enhancements. This consisted of evaluating every mechanical system on the dryer to determine where the cost savings could be achieved without sacrificing form, fit, or function.

Designed a field retrofit kit for a 450 and 900 lb. open pocket washing system. This was to repair a structural design flaw that caused the lower belly/drain box of the washer to fatigue and crack prematurely during high extraction. Solidworks Simulation software was used to recreate the failure and determine the point of the weakest link. That data was used to design a bracing super-structure to withstand the extreme loads. The design was engineered to be integrated into all new production washers.

Tasked with a dryer standardization project in which the assignment was to take 3 unique dryer models, take the best features of all models and create a new hybrid dryer. The project was broken into 5 phases. 1) burner/gas train 2) base weldment 3) drive and tilt frame assembly 4) tower and blower box weldment 5) shell assembly. All phases were redesigned and/or modified to achieve this goal.

Assisted in the design of the pump, valve, and tank system for the primary 500-gallon water reservoir used on a 12 module, 120 ft. long tunnel washing system. The tank was divided into 3 chambers containing the reclaimed water, fresh tempered water, and fresh hot water, along with three 15 HP water pumps.
