Employer: California Department of Transportation

Employment Date: 2016 to 2023

Position: Emergency Contracts Coordinator

Description of Work:

Emergency Contract to Repair SF Bay Bridge Foundation Anchor Rods at Self Anchored Suspension Span Tower. Review of final scope and construction cost estimate, preparation of contract documents, performed bid procedure and award for the repair work of failed anchor rods in the new bridge tower foundation. The emergency contract scope included cleaning, re-grouting and re-testing the high-strength anchor rods. Pull testing for some originally installed rods resulted in slippage resulting in failed test results in the newly installed rods. Caltrans performed grout core sampling of the bonding grout interface surrounding failed rod finding voids in the bonding grout preventing anchor rods from achieving full strength as designed. The emergency contract resolved the issue by awarding the emergency contract for performing cleaning of the rods and pressure-grouting to eliminate voids so that proof and performance pull tests subsequently performed were successful.
