Employment History

2005-2011 GCPS- Served 2 years teaching in the kindergarten grade level, and 4 years as a first-grade teacher. Trained in giving standardized tests such CoGat, CRCT, & MAZE Reading assessments.

2011-Present GCPS- Elementary School counselor for 3 years.

Currently a middle school counselor in Gwinnett County Public Schools. Responsibilities include social/emotional skills training, bully prevention, crisis management, career awareness education and career counseling for student post-secondary preparation, Counselors work with teachers to support children who are not performing to their maximum potential or may need consideration for special services. Counselors have active roles in the RTI process, we hold student support team meetings, 504 meetings, and assess brief Evaluations such as the KBIT: measures verbal and nonverbal ability as well as an overall IQ component. Counselors also support the roles of social emotional learning, and education at their local school level through small group, classroom lessons, and individual student sessions.

Equestrian Connections 2015-2017- Equestrian Connections collaborates with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Equestrian Connections hosts workshops with patients suffering from various ailments and networks a host of local Equine Therapy Facilities to be a part of the workshops. Workshops include children with osteosarcoma and their families, mother daughter workshop for girls with Scoliosis, equine based session titled: Horse Care for Kids as well as, horse handler for Therapeutic Riding with children living with sickle cell disease.

Affiliations/Honors/Achievements

Member of ASCA 2015- Present- this Association offers various updates on successful counseling resources, lessons and research-based discussions. These tools give insight and diversity into the field of School Counseling. Membership includes access to resources for our application as a Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP)

Member of GSCA 2016-present- Members volunteer to assist with organizing and attending various region meetings, professional developments, as well as attending and volunteering at the GSCA conferences.

Member of the Emergency Response Team and County Reunification Team for GCPS 2012-Present- As a member of the ERT we are sent out to assist with school and community crisis such as death of a student, teacher, natural disaster relief, etc. The teams serve on as need basis in numerical rotation from team 1 to team 8. 2023 marks my 11th year as a member of the Emergency Response Team. It is a passion to be able to support schools in time of crisis.

GCPS Middle School Steering Committee 2017 Lead Chair- Professional Development in the summer months to collaborate and plan staff development session for the County Counseling Dept. 2017 I am served as the middle school chair elect. Duties include, network and find various speakers based on issues in need.

2015 Counseling Department RAMP award winners- Served as 1 of 3 counselors at Grace Snell Middle School. As a department, we worked diligently on submitting the Recognized ASCA Model Program Award. The RAMP award is an 11-section comprehensive project, which recognizes a school for having a comprehensive school counseling Program. Our department was the 1st to apply and receive RAMP for Grace Snell Middle School.

2017 Georgia School Counselor Association Presenter- first time presenter at the 2017 GSCA conference in Jekyll Island November 2017. Topic: Growth Mindset. Lessons involve practice of having a growth mindset in academics. This unit has shown positive trends in increasing academic success and student self-confidence.

2019 American School Counselor Association Presenter first time presenter at the 2019 ASCA conference in Boston Massachusetts June 2019. Topic: Growth Mindset from 2017 GSCA Conference

2020 Certified 200 hr RYT Yoga Instructor- With a 200 HR yoga certification I am able to deliver various styles of yoga to individuals who are told would benefit from yoga.

2021 Georgia School Counselor Association Presenter- Served as a presenter collaboration with my Assistant Principal. Topic: mindfulness in middle school and working with Administration on Academic Support and Small Groups. Both the Counselor and the Assistant Principal are key leaders in this small group.

Restorative Practices and Education Equality Training. Attend 8 modules through the Georgia Conflict Center on ways to build restorative justice and used restorative practices in the classroom. This course is limited to counselors, assistant principals and behavior specialist, with the intention to redeliver the content to our local school

2020-Present- Advisement Coordinator at Grace Snell Middle School and Bay Creek Middle School- As the advisement coordinator I was responsible for developing a team and creating lessons related to social emotional learning in the classroom. This is a school wide program with lessons presented to all students.

2021 Certified and Yoga and Mindfulness for teens through CHILD LIGHT EDUCATION COMPANY. This certification provides a curriculum specific to teens, with activities and lessons on mindfulness, self esteem and emotional regulation. This has been an essential tool to use in school post COVID-19.

2021-2022 Middle School South Gwinnett Cluster Counselor Of The Year. GCPS Middle School Counselor of the year FINALIST for 2021-2022. The only finalist from a Title I school.

2022-2023 Georgia School Counselor Association Presenter- This presentation shares ways to incorporate mindfulness and stress relief through the use of yoga in the classroom. Ideas related to integration of mindfulness through ice breakers, class meetings, transitions, etc are shared in this presentation to counselors P-12.

2022-2023- GCPS Middle School Counselor of the Year Finalist- One of 3 middle school counselors in Gwinnett County to be one of 3 finalists for counselor of the year. This was the 2nd year that I was nominated a finalist. As a finalist we also were given the opportunity to share a story about a student we work with. I was privileged to have 2 videos created for my student advocacy showcase. See next page for access to video links.

2022- PRESENT Comprehensive School Counselor Committee GCPS: As a member of the Comprehensive Counseling Committee in Gwinnett County, we review Comprehensive counseling documents from specific schools. We provide feedback and comments related to the school counseling program to support the common goal for all counseling Departments in Gwinnett County to be Comprehensive, and data driven. This committee is an honor to be on, and continues to allow opportunity to continue my professional education, knowledge and experience.

2023-2024 Certified ASCA National Model Specialist: Certified through ASCA’s U Specialist Training. This training gives us the tools and resources to support school counseling departments to be comprehensive and data driven, to provide support for the specific needs of the students for school counselors in public school.
