At NJR Steel we had a one week dayshift and one week night shift.

My duties on dayshift was to check all trucks loaded by nightshift and make sure that they loaded the correct steel as per the invoices, if steel was delivered to us I had to check that the material on the truck was what was ordered, check for damages and report any shortages and damages to the supplier, if we had walk in customers I had to make sure the right material was loaded on to his vehicle. It was also my responsibility to make sure the warehouse is kept neat and tidy, if the overhead cranes would break or have electrical/mechanical faults I had to find the problem and fix it, if it was something that I could not repair I would contact the manufacturer to send out their maintenance team.

My duties on night shift was to firstly check all invoices and make sure that the trucks would not be overloaded, then I would hand out the invoices to the staff to start picking the steel, before we would load the steel on to the trucks I had to check all steel to make sure it is the right quantity, size and not damaged then proceed and make sure it is loaded correctly for delivery the next day. I had to shuffel the trucks on the premisses from one loading bay to the next.

My duties were to find timber to be harvested, I would approach farmers who had timber on their farm, ( wattle, gum, pine ) if the farmer agreed to sell his timber I had to make sure a contract is signed between the company and farmer. It was my duty to ensure the harvesting contractor adhered to the rules of the farmer and make bookings for trucks to load timber and always keep the farmer up to date on the work in progress.

The owner of the company passed away in November 2020 and the company closed down.
