WORK HISTORY Crane Operator NLMK Indiana 01/2008 - 08/2021 Operated the Charge Crane, Slab Yard Crane and Ladle Crane for a company that produces liquid steel in an Electric Arc Furnace
(EAF) and hot rolls the continuously cast slabs in a 60” in Hot Strip Mill. Worked in the EAF Melt Shop that is capable of producing over 200 tons of molten steel an hour.
After the furnace was tapped, steel was sent to the ladle furnace and then the caster.
Emptied buckets of scrap with the Charge Crane into furnace after preparing to designate a specific grade
Brought up materials for the furnace, Ladle Furnace and caster depending on crane I was operating that day.
Used Charge Crane to bring up man lifts, forklifts and Bobcats to re-brick furnace and to change the tap hole
Responsible for the transfer of over 200+ tons of molten steel to the caster from the Ladle Furnace.
Loaded and unloaded slabs on trucks, stacked freshly cast slabs in the slab yard using overhead remote controlled crane (extremely hot) and loaded Euclid with scrap using magnet as well as setting up slabs to be cut for scrap in between clearing caster pushout table. Processed pour-backs from caster to EAF in Ladle Crane when necessary, according to safety protocols.
On down days and outages, tore apart the caster, changed segments, and unloaded molds from semi-trucks for the caster using both the Ladle Crane and remote controlled overhead East Bay Crane.
Determined load weights and checked them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
Inspected crane mechanisms and lifting devices to prevent malfunctions or damage at beginning of shift
Inspected cables for wear (fraying, bird caging etc.) as needed. Directed utility (using hand signals or radio communication) engaged in placing blocking and rigging of stock and mobile equipment as well as taking direction myself when making critical moves and ground help was required.
Ensured team member safety and compliance of all OSHA regulations.
