Michaels 2021 - Present

District Manager/Director (Central Illinois/Indiana/Louisville)

Lead the field operations team for a $75 MM+ district consisting of 17 stores.

Recruited to turnaround struggling market. Brought on talent from my past career experience and upgraded talent throughout the district.

Moved District Scorecard from 77/79 to 29/79 in first full year.

Identified and developed 2 Hi-Po Store Managers who are now on the DM Bench.

Successfully opened 2 new stores in 2023.

Burlington Stores 2019 - 2021

District Manager (Central Illinois/Indiana)

Led the field operations team for a $90 MM+ consisting of 11 stores.

Recruited to turnaround struggling market. Moved to top of Region performance in multiple KPI’s within 6 months…Sales, Customer Service, Staffing/Scheduling, and Shrink Improvement.

Successfully managed the leadership staffing and opening of 2 new stores within the first 6 months of being in role.

Joann Stores 2015 - 2019

Multi-Market District Manager (Central Illinois/Indiana)

Led the field operations team for a $70 MM+ district including 21 large and small format stores.

District was top district in region in 2017 in comp sales, average ticket, and IPT. District was in top 10 (out of 55) comp sales districts in 2017 and 2018.

Implemented formal quarterly succession planning within the district to identify, assess and develop talent resulting in multiple internal promotions at all levels in the district.

Implemented daily/weekly/monthly management routines to increase consistency of execution which has led to increased sales through better ad sets, process implementation, planogram completion, and receiving efficiencies.

Selected to coach and develop the business acumen of RVP’s and DM’s when conducting market business reviews with executive leadership team in 2018.

Dicks Sporting Goods 2004-2015

District Manager/Director (Central Illinois 2004-2007, Indianapolis 2007 - 2015)

Led the Field Operations team for the $130MM Indianapolis district. District Staff included: 13 Store Managers, District Loss Prevention Manager, and Community Marketing Manager; primary responsibilities included driving profitable comp store growth, process execution, successfully executing new store openings in multiple formats/businesses, customer experience initiatives, and talent development. These efforts led to consistently achieving superior sales and profitability performance from the district.

Developed and promoted 3 store managers to District Manager, multiple sales managers to store manager and numerous sales leaders to sales managers. Long term On-Boarding District Manager that formally mentored multiple new internal and external DM's to successfully transition to role.

Produced comp sales increases ten of eleven years by executing company priorities and change initiatives with a high-sense of urgency and entrepreneurial leadership of my team.

Sears, Roebuck & Co. 1996-2004

Director of Store Operations - Sears Hardware Stores 2002-2004

As the Director of Store Operations, I drastically reduced the chain's retail shrink percent from over 3% to 1.3% in 3 cycles by creating vision and partnership with District and Region Managers. I effectively managed the daily operations processes and loss prevention initiatives of the 150+ stores within the $700 MM Sears Hardware chain through sourcing, acquiring, developing and leading a team of six Area Operations Managers (two districts per area) to ensure implementation of operational priorities.

Organized, planned, and implemented an overall process reengineering effort standardized process execution across the chain.

Drove consistent annual increases across key performance indicators (margin, aged-merchandise, shrink, RTV, returns, defectives) that produced double-digit profit improvements. Produced new tools and measurements to effectively track key performance indicators in stores. I effectively worked with Field Operation team to closely align operations and loss prevention priorities with the overall company vision. Led the project management of key process re-engineering initiatives including: OPS Conversion, Schedule Model development and implementation, and Service Contract Re-Launch.

Increased selling payroll by 20% through streamlining store operations processes that drastically improved operations efficiency and effectiveness across the entire chain. This allowed the Hardware Stores to add key selling positions and the addition of Major Appliances to the stores format which increased chain-wide sales in my last year by 9%.

District Manager (IN, MO, OH) 1996-2002

Drove five consecutive years of comp-store sales growth being a dynamic leader of multi-district markets including St. Louis/Indianapolis, and Indianapolis/Cincinnati/Dayton. Districts were 14-16 stores spanning two markets with over $60 million in annual sales.
