As a Plant Quarantine Officer suffice to say that our job allows us to play a cognitive role in the Food industry bearing in mind the “Farm to table approach”. This approach makes full use of Programmes that wholesomely contributes to Food Safety facilitated by the National Plant Protection Organization that entails surveillance, farm certification, inspection and certification, registration and permits, laboratory testing etc. Officers are equipped with the knowledge to recognize and be part of emergency preparedness plans to deal with pest outbreaks that can cause negative and detrimental effects on our plants that results in major disruption in trade. Emphasis is also placed on transporting of fresh fruits and vegetables and other agricultural commodities i.e. whether there is compliance with food safety regulations by the exporter or producer. • I was honoured to be part of many workshops and training facilitated by different organizations and ministries in which certificates were not always issued but knowledge and new experiences gained .
