Quality Assurance and Testing Center of Excellence Manager

(Change, Release and Environment Management and Testing Center)

Direct and coach over 150 team members on enterprise-wide activities related to Environments, Change and Release Management, & Testing and Quality Assurance and Project/Program Management. Established the Quality Assurance and Testing Center of Excellence in alignment with the organizational goals; applied best practices (standards, processes, procedures, compliance, traceability), and implemented test process analysis with metrics-based management. Design and execute training for Data Courier and support of all the application teams. Develop robust EHR (Epic) Environment Strategy for the new architecture. Implemented the Change Management Module of Service Now for IT. Work with the internal/external audit teams in creating action plans and completing them using High Bond. Worked with the Program Director for Epic in providing Program dates as well as detailed activities (project plan).

I established and ran the programs through using my project management skill set. These programs were across the entire enterprise.

Implemented a Test Automation Program (using Application Lifecyle Management ALM and EggPlant) that resulted in an ROI of $1.3M and increased test coverage by 56%.

Established KPI for Metrics, Workgroups, and CABs, increased team members capacity by 26%; reduce quantity of defects and emergencies by 40%.

Implemented and trained IT on ServiceNow’s change management module and release module. Also work with Project Portfolio Management (PPM) on Projects for our team and on CMDB.

Streamlined testing for new Data Warehouse architecture from 15 days to 9 days.

Provided and ran Project Plans for all monthly updates and semiannual upgrades for Epic and third-party vendor integrations.

Work with internal compliance on both internal and external audits for our organization. Create and work action plans for the IS organization. Creating processes to be rolled where and when needed to close action items. Create Deviations and Waivers for the organization that require AVPs and CIO signatures.

CATHOLIC HEALTH INITIATIVES - CO 2011-2016

Testing Center of Excellence Manager

All of the activities completed at CHI were for three major EHRs. Those EHRs were Cerner/McKesson Star, which is what was our most implemented EHR for our organization integrating over 200 third party vendors. The other two EHRs were Epic and Meditech.

I was as change agent in implementing not only the testing center for these applications but also part of the implementation plans. We deployed a major Cerner/McKesson Star implementation in Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA. At the same time moving forward with the activities to implement the KY and TN hospitals.

Worked with the Chief Nursing Officer and her team members establishing standards, process and procedures.

Building workflows along with Integrated and User Acceptance Test Scenarios that would exercise the business workflows end to end.

Drove the project plans with resourcing and timeframes of the activities needing to be completed within the target date for delivery to production.

Created and facilitated IntegratedTest Scenario Review (ITSRs) where the business and IT reviewed the test scenarios based on the business workflows. This reduced the numbers of defects to zero critical defects and 2 high defects once implemented in production.

Had monthly meetings with both the Business and IT stakeholders, management teams and team members of status of the project in meeting the implementation date.

Presented test process analysis to provide and advise improvements based on trend analysis of key metrics for all the EHRs Cerner/McKesson Star, Epic and Meditech. Member of the IT Service Management (ITSM) Review Board including the creation of procedures for Release Management process. Effectively deployed the ICD-10 program for all the acute and ambulatory applications across the organization. Directed service virtualization (SV) for CHI Healthcare applications and the change request management process which includes the approval process for establishing changes to be allocated into a release.

Established the Testing Center of Excellence; developed an enterprise Testing Center and executed best practices (standards, processes, procedures) with metrics-based management.

Managed a staff of up to 200 people (both consultants and FTEs both IT and client ); delivered solutions within target timelines.

Nominated by Visionary Integration Professionals and HP for Software Award for Customer Excellence.

Maintained quality in producing claims; improved statistics substantially from over 5000 defects during the deployment warranty period with zero test defects in the ICD-10 program.

CIGNA - Greenwood Village, CO 2003-2011

Senior Director of Process and Quality Services Organization (2005 – 2011)

Led numerous IT projects and associated staff; established infrastructure for an entire enterprise-wide testing center and directed ongoing improvement of information-system quality through the identification of synergies and elimination of redundancies. Oversaw IT services tasks; improved vendor management solution delivery for offshore teams, facilitated knowledge transition, and ensure there were always adequate resources available to confirm on-budget and on-time delivery of solutions. Planned integration and centralization of all testing teams in the Technical Solutions Group with testing center in Bloomfield, CT.

Spearheaded the entire SDLC and quality program; set up the following centers: Testing Center, Business Analysis Center, Development Center, and Project Management Center.

Successfully achieved overall higher quality through the improvement of enterprise-wide consistency. Guaranteed adherence to industry standards through the establishment and implementation of systematic checks and balance.

Saved the company over $1M through decreasing staff by 1 offshore to 1 FTE.

IT Integration Project – CIGNA and Great West Healthcare (2008 – 2010)

Managed all projects and consolidated IT integration, migration, and testing activities; ensured easy transition into the Data Infrastructure. Concurrently led the process-improvement team (87 employees for both initiatives).

Replacement of Mainframe with Client-Server Network (2005–2008)

Replaced obsolete mainframe system with a distributed, HIPAA-compliant, client-server network that processes insurance functions, for example: claims payments; self-funded insurance; stop loss scenarios; and financial risk assessments. Assessed existing processes, identified areas that could be improved, and established best practices for software testing and development. Successfully completed and implemented HIPAA compliance (an 18-month project), as well as integrated new Facets Platform from TriZetto.

Streamlined existing procedures and reduced time to market through creation and implementation of new regression test bed processes, provided staff training, improved software quality, and upgraded automated SW testing tools.

Reduced time to market and rework by 20%, as well as increased overall product quality.

Compliance Testing for HIPPA, Great West Healthcare (2003–2004)

Completed compliance confirmation activities from initial software testing for HIPPA to testing of all software for the IT organization.
