Completed CUMULUS training program in the ‘exceptional’ range.

oTraining program included intensive reading, videos, quizzes and tests, as well as production of a 60-second commercial.

The sales process began with researching opportunities, lots of cold calls, or walking into businesses and asking for the owner or whoever handles the advertising.

On the first meeting with a customer it’s important to ask them questions about their business, find out their goals, and what troubles them about their business.

oThen I present the 4 keys of branding: reach, frequency, consistency and creative. We then discuss how to apply those keys to an advertising plan to help grow their business.

At the second meeting I present custom advertising plans and let them listen to a commercial made just for their business so they can hear what it could sound like.

oIf the opportunity to close presents itself on this visit, have them sign and close the deal.

oOtherwise, if the businesses wanted to see more changes to the advertising plan that we couldn’t figure out during the meeting or different commercial copy, we would schedule a 3rd meeting to close the deal.

From time to time, it wasn’t uncommon for me to close deals written on napkins or scrap paper on the first visit.

Most of the advertising money was on the FM station playing todays hits and yesterdays favorites, but there was also a lot of great business happening on the AM station which was mainly a news/talk station.

oSales budget projections were needed every week for both stations.
