OPERATIONS MANAGER

7 Up/ RC Bottling Company, Redlands, CA

July 2001 - October 2002

Responsible for all operations of the Redlands branch. Includes the Redlands 52,000 square foot warehouse and the El Centro distribution and sales center. Two hundred hourly employees members of the United Industrials Workers Union. Six million annual case volume, $72 million sales.

Produced the first positive labor budget in warehouse and distribution in eighteen months during October, November, and December 2001, two months after assuming duties. Average $9,000 under budget monthly.

Corrected mismanagement of manpower and finances in the fleet department to reduce the R & M Fleet budget from $30,000 monthly to $18,000 monthly. Reduced the out of service rate from 23% to 3%.

Completed a major restructuring of the Redlands 52,000 square foot warehouse. An obsolete racking system was removed and all stock and pick areas were redesigned. The project was completed at 75 % of budget. Stacking averages for the loading crew improved immediately by 50 cases per hour. Monthly savings at $12,000.

Produced 12 highly accurate inventories during my first 12 months. The Redlands Branch showed the lowest level of inventory discrepancies of all eleven 7-UP branches during those months.

I brought the distribution and fleet departments into DOT compliance. All vehicles were brought up to maintenance standards. Driver's "hours of service" were corrected to comply with federal standards.

Initiated numerous maintenance projects in the physical plant to correct years of neglect. Passed all inspections including the Fire Department, the Health Department, HAZMAT, underground tank testing, and DOT BIT inspections.

Set up the El Centro facility as a remote distribution terminal for Redlands.

Initiated numerous cost savings programs within all departments.

COCA-COLA ENTERPRISES, Downey, CA April 1984 - July 2001

DISTRIBUTION SUPERVISOR February 1998 - July 2001

Responsible for all functions of the branch's distribution of 21 million annual cases. Supervise 69 Teamster drivers.

Sales Distribution route planning: Completed a major route plan for the Carson, CA branch. This was a pilot project that I was asked to do by the Southern California Division Finance Department. This project led to a major restructuring of the sales and distribution system in the Southern California Division. This led to an offer of a new position continuing the project in all thirteen branches.

Branch Re-alignment Project: Prior to realigning the Downey branch as the bulk only center, I completed a cost analysis/manpower projection that I presented to the division finance manager. New goals were set that enabled a smooth transition and averted a potential loss in overtime costs and lost sales as high as $100,000.

Efficiency Reporting: I developed and implemented an Excel spreadsheet which enabled the measuring of various driver efficiency standards on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis. This real time data enabled the kind of precise evaluation that led to change in daily operations.

Time Percentage Dispatching: I set the parameters of the AS400 based BASIS sales and dispatching software to utilize the inherent functionalities for route efficiency. The system was then used to strictly control route time. This reduced overtime, haulback, unproductive time, and customer satisfaction.

Developed and implemented the sideloader pallet ticket program in the Downey warehouse. I tracked labor savings for the first three months and compared to the prior years labor costs. Labor savings were $25,848 during the three months. This program is still in use and was implemented company wide.

Driver Attendance Program: Observing disturbing trends in driver absenteeism I developed an Excel bases record keeping system to simplify tracking of attendance. I "sold" this to the other staff. I raised a discussion of the standards, union issues, and the need for fair application of discipline. I led a restructuring of our attendance/discipline system, which resulted in a 12% reduction in absenteeism, timesaving for supervision in record keeping and discipline, and improved morale among drivers and staff. Annual labor savings $3938.

I served as a resource person to all other departments in the branch. I performed such tasks as producing individual sales route maps and tour maps for the sales staff, computerizing the cashier's functions, writing numerous AS400 queries to give daily sales information to all departments, and serving as the focus for outlet master maintenance in the branch.
