My job involved working with individuals diagnosed with a particular infectious disease to identify and provide support for them and to others who may have been infected through close contact.
I was responsible for providing health education and guidance to interrupt ongoing disease transmission. This includes providing instructions for isolation and making appropriate referrals to testing, clinical services, and other essential support services.
I conducted interviews with patients to gather information including symptom history, source of illness, list of close contacts, and activity history while infectious.
Contact Tracing was also a critical part of my job function, reaching out to people who had been exposed to the disease and provided health education and guidance to help them interrupt ongoing disease transmission.
This role involved the accurate documentation and management of data as multiple investigations were being conducted simultaneously.
This role required much flexibility, cultural competency, and application of motivational interviewing techniques. Owing to the nature of the job, developing a warm, empathetic rapport with the case is paramount to providing the most effective support and collecting the most accurate information
