Automation Design/Programming Consultant – provided contract PLC programming/design for several small projects supporting pet food processing.

Start Up Commissioning/Support - provided sortation system commissioning and start up support. System utilized AB Armor PowerFlex Drives with distributed 24VDC Ethernet/IP I/O.

Lead Controls Engineer

Provided Engineering support for approx. 120 Poultry facilities. Support included electrical design, trouble shooting, PLC and Ignition HMI programming for Feed Mills, facility refrigeration, Hatcheries, and rendering plants.

Upgraded obsolete Schneider quantum PLC controls to M580 and Ignition HMI for three (3) Feed Mills.

Provided electrical design and programming support for various Feed Mills including steam system upgrades, milling, and pelleting equipment upgrades.

Senior Electrical Design/Project Engineer

Hired full time to continue development of world class electrical controls for sortation facilities for Amazon, Federal Express, UPS and others. I was challenged with a team effort to develop new customers as MHS grew into the 5th largest material handling company in the world. Key emphasis was modernization and implementation of new technologies like IoT, Distributed Ethernet I/O and control.

After working on 2 of MHS’s first 3 Amazon projects which implemented new distributed VFD and I/O controls schemes I moved to the Federal Express team to help develop similar successful implementation for MHS’s first 2 Federal Express projects.

I’ve been described by MHS management as an A-Team member in helping develop innovative solutions that provide value to MHS and its customers. As a result, I am assigned to new customers and critical for MHS’s success projects.

Technical Coordinator

Supervised four controls engineers in maintenance department.

Designed plant wide MES system that utilized RSSQL to record production, process and quality data for OEE calculations. System also monitored equipment and PLC status and was integrated with Maximo for predictive and preventive maintenance work orders.

Designed and implemented product tracking system utilizing DeviceNet and Adaptascan barcode readers to track 5,500 products/day reducing internal SKU tracking errors and provided improved quality tracking.

Led Fort Smith Division MES efforts by integrating data collection utilizing Wonderware Intouch, Visual Basic, and MS Access

Implemented production and quality databases with Visual Basic and MS Access to reduce manpower required to input information and improve the quality of the data. Worked with Corporate IT staff to convert to SQL Server and integrate reports through Intranet.

Managed day-to-day controls support for cabinet foaming operation. Reduced cycle time of conveyor systems by 3% by programming and with no capital expenditures.

Developed and managed yearly expense budget for maintenance engineering department.

Supervised five controls/process engineers supporting automated refrigeration manufacturing processes.
