POSITION: SENIOR ADVISOR GOVERNMENT RELATIONS

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director (and now senior PPP manager), I was a key member of the leadership team. I built strong and productive relationships with national & County Governments (MOH & COG-Council of Governors), and other relevant stakeholders, to form the basis for a mutually beneficial, multi-year approach to deploying MNH solutions developed by the organization, but to be owned by MOH/COG eventually. POSITION: DEPUTY DIRECTOR, SOCIAL MARKETING/COMPANY PHARMACIST

Responsibilities

I reported to the Country Director and led a team of 8 direct reports and 12 indirect others.

As the departmental head of Social Marketing, I provided sales and distribution expertise in leading and motivating the team. I developed and implemented annual sales and distribution/marketing plans for misoprostol, medical abortion, injectables (Sayana Press), emergency contraceptives and IUDs. I registered medical abortion, emergency contraception and LNG-IUS with the Pharmacy Board. I conducted training and sales-team skills development for these products, as well as capacity building for the HCPs, youth and women. I was responsible for program and strategic planning in family planning and safe abortion. I strengthened sales and distribution systems, Detailer-performance monitoring, reduced outstanding debt by 70%, instituted strict credit policies and customer management and financial and stock controls, thus increasing sales income by 15% within one year. NGO, supporting education/literacy for visually impaired school children in Africa, with reading materials, devices and equipment in 6 African countries. Turnover was about $ 2m.

Responsibilities

I was reporting to the CEO, through a Board of Directors. I had 6 direct-reporting staff in-country and 6 indirect ones from other countries. In Africa

I managed a six-country program that distributed literacy materials and education equipment to visually impaired children, after setting up a regional office in Nairobi. I replicated implementation and learnt- lessons, with like-minded partners in other countries, towards the achievement of the organization’s mission and vision. Learners' support included mental health, SRH, and devices amongst many others.

Key achievements: In 3 years, program results included reaching over 20,000 visually impaired children in diverse schools with literacy materials/equipment/spare parts; and training of service providers/transcribers/teachers who repaired over 50,000 broken Braille machines. I raised an additional $500K through local fundraising initiatives and connected the organization to a new device supplier, known as ‘Orbit reader-20’, to help visually impaired learners read and write.

POSITION: AMUA SOCIAL FRANCHISE MANAGER

Responsibilities

I was reporting to the program director and managed a team of 12.

I managed a team of Social Franchise (AMUA) Coordinators towards supporting a network of over 410 private HCPs in SRH services’ provision to low-income communities, especially women and youth. Health areas included sexual reproductive health, mental health, family planning, malaria, and integrated child & maternal illnesses. Scope of work included supportive supervision, capacity building, commodity security, quality assurance, data collection & reporting, M&E, and refresher courses. Managed a budget portfolio of $10m over four years.

Key achievements: The average quality assurance scores for HCPs (SRH services quality indices) rose from 60% to over 85%, during my tenure. I helped the program/organization to regain donor and MOH confidence, brought in multiple funding streams/donors, and partners, and grew the Franchise from a paltry less than 100 HCPs to over 410 in 3 years. I was given recognition awards in the Philippines, Uganda and from UK, during regional review meetings. I introduced HCPs to health-financing mechanisms, for developmental loans and subsequent growth/expansion.
